James, we love your gardening experiences. With such a short growing season you grow a wonderful garden that inspires all of us. Don't quit gardening and keeping us all inspired. I am so amazed with how you accomplish so much in such a short season.

I live on a two acre lot. There is an orchard. In the spring I will tend the orchard. Later with a little luck I may pick some fruit. Never know about that until it happens. Things can go wrong at any minute. The bees are all gone and the beekeeping equipment is gone. I will not be gardening. So I will put up my feet and be fat and lazy. Oh, there is asparagus growing all over the place, so I will pick some asparagus.

Just checked in with the intention of wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. First thing I saw was Over the Fence — I Quit by James.Clicked on immediately.
James, as I’m sure long time members will agree, you’ve added so much to this forum and will be greatly missed if you don’t continue here. Your absence here would be a tremendous loss. Even though I only know you through the forum, I felt a great sadness about your not gardening any more. Maybe it’s because of my own personal experiences over the past year which has been the most difficult in my life. Or maybe it’s because we’re about the same age; that being one of the reasons I relate to a lot of what you say. Whatever the reason, I sure feel sad. I wish you every success and happiness in whatever your hand finds to do. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours James. And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone reading as well. Theresa
PS - I tried to tag everyone who posted on this thread, but it would only show meatburner, Mumsey, James, and myself.

Here the gardening is for about 4 months a year. the rest of the year it is too cold to grow anything except ice. So gardening turns out to be a part time project anyway. Do not worry, I will do fine. Today I am growing ice. You should see the snow coming down. Six inches deep and still coming.
Where the garden was has been seeded in grass, so next summer I can ride the lawn mower and mow grass. On a 2 acre lot that is quite a bit of grass. For sure there will be loads of weeds. Well I will mow whatever grows.
I will spend some time in the orchard, pruning and tending and with a little luck do some harvesting.
This evening 30 degrees, calm and snowing. The snow is near two feet deep. I pushed the snow shovel for a bit and got the heart rate up some.

Dec 4, I fed the cats and took the wild birds some seed. It is 22 degrees, calm and sunny with about 18 inches of snow on the ground.

Guess you can right click the icon and choose "Open in New Tab" Doesn't work for me this time, but it could be my flaky ISP.

Quitting it altogether? Not even a little bit? You have always had wonderful produce. You don't HAVE to stop entirely...but good luck to you.

"Quitting it altogether? Not even a little bit?"
I have asparagus planted all over and there is the orchard of fruit trees. So I will pick asparagus in the Spring and tend the orchard. Perhaps harvest some fruit later? One never knows on that one. Just have to wait and see.

Asparagus is good. A perennial garden should be much less work, especially if you have it already planted and growing a few years.
