I grew up on the farm. Dad had milk cows, horses, the occasional pig and sheep. He always reserved a spot that he called the garden where he would plant corn, beans, squash, cucumbers, etc. So I got gardening experience at an early age. So I always grew a garden when I got my own place. Had a big family and the garden helped to feed them. OK, now I am tired and old. Live with my wife on a 2 acre lot, but this year I decided to quit gardening and had a son plant the whole plot into grass this fall. So I am done gardening. Will just put up my feet and relax.

James, If you quit gardening, how will you pass the time? A guy can only bake and eat just so much homemade bread. Maybe it's time for a raised bed, just big enough for a few tomatoes (is there such a thing as a few tomatoes?), some lettuce for wilted lettuce or that BLT, or a few peppers.
As long as you are physically able, don't miss the joy of eating that first sun ripened tomato right out there at the garden. It's one of life's simple pleasures.

You can still hang on and spur, James. Just trim a bit and don't ride that pony as hard.

If you don't want to garden, don't garden. This does not have to be a 'forever' decision, however. If you change your mind in the future, you can always start again, at whatever level you wish. Or not. If it's not fun, and you don't need the food for survival, pursue other hobbies that are more enjoyable. Skydiving, poker, darts, cooking, triathlons.... the possibilities are endless.

James, could you be experiencing the side effects of medications? They can make you feel old before your time.

Tom: James, could you be experiencing the side effects of medications?
Tom, I was born 1940. I really am no spring chicken. However I still feel fine. Just decided I was done gardening. I am a beekeeper also and have put all the beehives and equipment up for sale too. Hey, this is what I have decided to do and all the yakking ain't going to get me to change my mind!

Good luck in your future endeavors, James. If you miss this, that's what will bring you back, not others trying to convince you otherwise!

'Good Luck James,I hope you stay with us on the forums."
I may hang around the forums, but like I said, I am done gardening. The whole plot was seeded in grass this fall.

"James, If you quit gardening, how will you pass the time? "
I only garden for about 4 months a year. The rest of the year it is too cold in this high mountain desert. So gardening is a part time activity.
