www.msn.com/en-us/health/health-news/salmonella-alert-backyard-chickens-have-caused-21-state-outbreak-cdc-says/ar-AABvt48?ocid=spartanntp
Thus far, 52 people have contracted salmonella. The time period over which this has occurred isn't provided.
According to the article, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming each have a salmonella case or cases.
The article emphasizes cleanliness in handling chickens and dealing with their environment. I've read that more and more people are raising chickens. I wonder if they're inexperienced and don't understand the importance of high levels of hygiene?

SpringRain🕊️, Wow! I must alert a friend who has chickens, amongst other critters, plus young children.

Thank you for posting this. Locally, the concern is primarily for Newcastle.

Chickens are dirty birds and a lot of folks don't seem to realize that. Never use cracked eggs and keep the henhouse clean.
