Never had a problem with beetles. Have a butterfly net to catch some when they buzz through. Chickens love them.

datgirl, I sprayed with neem on Monday. I've seen a few and managed to capture them in soapy water. I may have to visit the fabric store for netting.

Picked a fourth (and probably last) picking of bush beans from the first of two beds. The bean beetles are back again (squished a lot of little orange egg clusters), with the second bed just now blooming. I'll get the first one pulled up and re-plant it for a third planting. Great production so far.

Pulled the spent bush bean bed number 1, after five full pickings. We've gotten spoiled on having freshies coming in regularly. Bed number 2 is lush and will be picking-ready in a few days. I'll re-plant number 1 as soon as possible. Lots of bean beetle eggs on the pulled plants.
What do you folks use against them?

I lost some more pole beans, and I am wondering if it wasn't the rabbits, but the wicked wind I had, which might have used the string of the trellis to just cut the stem - never had this happen with CRW, but I don't have enough of that. . Now, I'm going to try something else - some teepees, with some netting around them. This is getting as frustrating as when I was still trying to conquer SQB! Hopefully, I will conquer this!

Wheelgarden, I drown those JB in soapy water. Been using Neem but it doesn't seem to deter them much. I see our neighbor has put one of those JB traps in his back yard. Considering netting, but these are pole beans, 2 rows of them totaling about 25 ft. That's a lot of netting to deal with. I put milky spore down last summer, hopefully by next year it will be more effective. It can take a couple years.

OK, I've had it with those JB. The junk store here in town has some fine netting, a lot of it for $3. Saw it yesterday. Hope it's still there... I'll use clothes pins to anchor it to pole bean fences and to reduce entry points. PIA, but I refuse to use the big guns. And they are after asparagus ferns, eggplant, etc. If I deny them the beans they will probably attack everything else!

Mumsey, It amazes me that I don't have these JB. Maybe I'm not seeing them? I'm not complaining, though. You just keep them up there.

Dad doesn’t have them out in the country either. They must be City guys. I never had them either when we lived in the country.

I believe they spend their larval time among the roots of lawn grasses, which would appear to be more of a suburban ecosystem.

The war is on. I'm aiming to win. There's another section like this, ran short of mesh, need 2 more yards. Darn.

Sure enough, the second bed of Blue Lake bush beans are behaving like half-runners, some 3-4' long. Need to extend the trellising upwards a bit. No worries, they're blooming and dripping with baby beanlets, and no sign of Mexican bean beetles yet.
