These things are way too big for 5 gallon buckets. Right. I hooked one that appeared to be two feet across. My line broke when it got near the top of the water. I once had a cement block pen with three snapping turtles in it. Masons working on the house asked for them to cook, and I gave them away because I was afraid a child might put its hand in the pen.

Tom, I don't ever remember seeing temps that high when I lived in New Bern, is that normal?

I don't ever remember seeing temps that high when I lived in New Bern, is that normal? It's not unusual for late summer, but it is for spring. New Bern may get some cooling from the Neuse and the ocean. My lettuce is getting bitter but it's still crunchy.

So far... first chipmunk, squirrel, toad, frog, fox, snake, hawk, crow, bluebird, cardinal, bluejay, hummingbird, butterfly, bat. And now this guy, or girl, has anyone ever seen one?

Tom, I don't think so because there are differences in the texture of the wings from what I can see.

First Japanese Beetle! I think they have been around a few days already, I noticed one canna riddled with holes when I was watering. It's in a pot. Ugh. The battle begins.

Last night was our first real summer night-you know that feel- and no need for a sweater.

Last night was our first real summer night- I was toolin' around the neighborhood on my garden/golf cart (I'm gonna miss that when it dies)yesterday evening, looking for tree damage from the storm. The smell in the air...I could smell the corn, the earth, the humidity. Summer has arrived.
