Itβs been ages since I did the toothpick/glass of water method. Is that still the best method? Last time I did it indoors, I planted a sweet potato about half way vertically into a flower pot, and it made sprouts well. When I start them outside, I plant them flat. I've had to stop growing sweet potatoes because of shrews, but no matter. Nephew came through with a 25 pound box this year. You got a give-away price on your sweet potatoes. I'd have bought 20 pounds at least. I sometimes slice and fry for breakfast but usually steam.

binnylou If you are wanting to sprout them for slips, just leave them lay around. They will grow vines and don't need water. They feed off the moisture in the potato. Dad had a big one sitting by the patio door for a year with nice vines. They don't grow as fast without water, but June is a long time away!
