He has a birthday coming up? He sure does! But he wouldn't be able to "ride" it! I won't even mention it to him.

Thanks again for the replies and suggestions. I've done some research on possibilities locally that I want to share, but it's a little bit too cold to be sitting and typing. We're not as bad off as other areas, but I need to keep moving or I get too cold.

Quick update: Spent some time today researching online and found a few more possibilities to explore.
I contacted Henry Ford Museum and got a form to submit for donations. I'm not too confident though, b/c the first step is a photo, then some type of "investigation" is done apparently to determine need. A week would be an optimum time, but the form indicates it could be quite awhile for the investigation and need determination to be made. I'm not holding my breath.
Community and demonstration gardens, not large in size, popped up as well. I thought that some community gardens probably have a range of participants, some of which may know how to fix the tiller and get it running, and not only could till plots but expand the garden as well.
Latitude33, if I recall correctly, didn't you participate in a community garden? I know that OregonRed did, but I haven't seen her here in quite a while (I've been concerned about her and I understand others have as well).
I'm looking more into locating smaller or mid size farmers' operations. There are a lot of farms in the central section of Michigan, but they're probably using larger riding tractors. I thought of apple farms, including one right across from the hospital we used to go to. There's a nicely cared for apple orchard, and the rows are small enough that a tiller could work almost as well as a tractor.
Called a local demonstration farm which apparently holds a farmer's markets. There is some really antique farm machinery in the yard, no horses that I saw, so I'm not sure if the machinery is used at all as I'm sure it's horse powered.
Michigan State U has a sort of demonstration farm; I attended a festival there years ago; it's small, with small plots, and a variety of animals.
Also found a Michigan Farm council, something like that. Thought of 4-H organizations; there used to be some in the area where my father grew up.
Similar tractors are listed for sale on e-Bay, but I like the idea of donating to a community garden rather than dealing with e-Bay.
Lots more calls to make on Monday, but I've already decided to clear some space either in the woodshop or the garage and move the tiller there until I can find a good home for it. I really don't want to just junk it. And I'm also going to investigate shipping, as I recall that there is a farm family where Dad grew up, and they definitely live a rural life, splitting their logs and gathering fluids for maple syrup.
And I still haven't checked out all the other suggestions made by those who were kind enough to respond.
This is actually kind of fun. (I know I need to stop this thought quickly, but I'm thinking of studying and learning how to fix up the tiller and keep it, replacing the gas line, and using it for my own property. The neighbors would probably call Code Enforcement before I could get any beds ploughed, but that's their problem.)

"James , unfortunately, the "old bat" women in the neighborhood prowl up and down the street and find anything that's offensive, and reportable. "
You need a good slingshot and a bag of marbles.

Spring Rain, if you were in my area I'd buy that gem off you. My tiller crapped out on me after only 2 seasons of use, they just don't make them like they use to.

deckman22 , I might even consider springing for the shipping costs to send it to you just so it would have a good home. I haven't even investigated that though, but I just hate to see a treasured item being destroyed, and it may come to that. I've also been thinking of hiring a u-haul and bringing it to my house. I don't think I could handle it though. I called one demonstration farm but my call was never returned; I also contacted the Henry Ford Museum and received a donation form to send back, along with a photo of it. In terms of time, it could be processed, evaluated for need, and a decision made in a week. But it could also take several weeks; I don't want to wait that long. That's as far as I've gotten since I last posted. When the furnace retired, my attention switched to that, and keeping warm.

You need a good slingshot and a bag of marbles. for the meddling women. James, what I think I'll do is tell them I'm selling the house to teetotalers and non smokers with strong beliefs and tendencies to try to reform others who do smoke and drink. One of the old bats smokes and is an alcoholic.

"for the meddling women."
Naw, I am not suggesting shooting women. Ever see what a flying marble can do to a plate glass window? When someone gets offensive, go out at night and send 'er a marble to the window. Give her something to do besides cuss your tiller. Ya, I am an onery ol man. Seems I was slow getting my growth and was always the little guy in school days. Many had their full growth in the eight grade, I did not get mine till senior in high school. So I was not big enough to whup anyone, always getting pushed around, so I devised ways to get back at the offenders. Give it some thought you will come up with something. Now I best shut up before I really get in trouble?

James, a marble through a window would be considered Malicious Destruction of Property in this area. And much as I wish people would stand up to her, I'm not going to lower myself to her level. Despite her ignorance and meddling, she's still a lonely old woman. Even her son moved away from her, way up north. From what I was able to conclude from neighbor's comments and observations, as well as her own ramblings, she seems to be alone in her "golden years" except for her family. And that's kind of sad.

Hmmm...maybe the old tiller could be a conversation starter over coffee. A little companionship is what she needs: that and to share her many stories from the past.
