lilolpeapicker, Jessie might like to nose around in your indoor plants if you use it indoors, just my first thought! I'd try some of the other things people mentioned. I just use fly strips if gnats show up.

Since the larvae need moisture to live and grow, letting the soil dry out between waterings may also help.

lilolpeapicker, for starting plants indoors, we've been using top-sprinkled ground cinnamon to keep fungus and gnats controlled. Works well.

Mumsey, gardendmpls, Wheelgarden, I have just noticed over the last few days that I have not yet seen any gnats around and was trying to figure why. But I usually do use the sticky strips but haven't had need to get any out yet. And maybe i have let them dry out a little more so than in the past. I will try some of these other ideas. Jesse can't get to the plants at all....the problem is the cat... I have to exclude her from one of the bedrooms where there is a set up and she just cannot go in there, The other set up is in where her litterbox is and there is no room on the shelves for her to go at least for now.

Wheelgarden, I’ve previously used chamomile tea to treat fungal growth in the starter packs/trays. I should make some, just to be ready.

lilolpeapicker, In the past 3 years I have had gnats. But I think it's from bringing in the Bouganvillea to winter over. I tossed it this year. So far no gnats. But they are like all insects, they come out when the "time is right".

OK I’m looking for your thoughts….. powdered milk has went up in price so what are your thoughts on using milk supplements for calves and lambs?

Last year I ground eggshells into powder and used that. I saved shells all Summer-Spring got about 3 1/2 pounds (7 cups)-enough for maybe 3 years. Might be too late this year, unless you can rally all family and friends to save them for you. I used it cup for cup in place of powdered milk. centralilrookie,

Last year I ground eggshells into powder and used that. I still have some eggshell powder in the garage. When it gets close to running out I'll save up more shells. Chickens are giving about a dozen eggs a day now.

centralilrookie, consider calcium supplements…ground up between two bricks. I used the calf milk replacer a lot of years ago. I remember it being messy. No, I didn’t reconstitute it. I didn’t use all of it. The unused portion might be in the deep area of the garden shed. I should go digging. Every time I mention using something that I know is in the garden shed, hubby’s response is the same. “ Can you still get in there?” I don’t think he’s talking about my mobility.

Mixed up about 2 1/2 gallons of the “MM” today. That may sound like a lot but I’ll be sharing some with the grey haired lady and little sister.
