I've got a nice couple of grapevines, unknown variety pink-red rotundifolias, not muscadines, and seeded. We make really good juice with them on a good year, when I can keep the turkeys and deer away before harvest.
We sure would like to try hand at a true seedless table grape. Do any of you know of a source for one that would accept southeastern U.S. soil and climate?

I can only say, pick one and give it a whirl.

Tending the quickly ripening grapes. Finally id'd as Catawba, thanks to the county extension folks. Loads of nice big clusters of pink-red sweetness. I hung a bar of soap at each end of the trellis, and sprinkled urine (yes) around the perimeter of the area to discourage the deer. I'm going for a few aluminum pie pans to hang, to hopefully discourage the turkeys, though they don't seem fazed with anything anymore.

to hopefully discourage the turkeys Do the turkeys always approach you garden in the same way? If so, maybe a barrier across that path would discourage them.

wheelgarden1 , I'm not sure if it's squirrels or birds or other creatures, but for years I've never been able to bring grapes to harvest b/c the critters get them. They do leave the stripped stems for me though. I guess someday I'll have to address the critter theft. We don't have deer or wild turkeys, so I have nothing to offer to discourage them. Sounds like you're much more rural than I am though. I'm wondering if you can put netting over the vines to keep out at least the deer? Are the grapes on supports that might keep the turkeys away, or can you create tall supports?

Sic the dogs on the turkeys. That works for deer too.
A shotgun for the birds and a 270 rifle for the deer. Three S Method. Shoot, Shovel, Shut up!

Do the turkeys always approach you garden in the same way? My garden area is wide open, bordered with trees at varying distance, and the gobblers come and go from where they will. SpringRain🕊️ , I am in a rural area. It does look like a good netting is my best option. James , my dog is getting a bit elderly (like her owner). Over the years, she and my previous dog (a golden retriever) have been beaten back by the toms, and they wouldn't sic on them again. They'd bark, but the turkeys around here are pretty bold. Like I said, nothing seems to faze them. I'd consider shooting them, but I'd have to deal with turkey carcasses --- not practical for me. Mumsey , thank you for the link. Good info there. Deer, turkeys, robins, and cardinals are my biggest grape snatchers, and they are abundant. It's probably a good thing I only have two vines! Thanks to all for the suggestions --- another reason I love this forum!

Wheelgarden , just out of curiosity, are your grapes smaller this year? I've noticed that mine are barely growing; they're smaller than peas. I'm assuming the heat has had an effect on them.
Incidentally, clicking on "Wheelgarden" to respond, I got "Wheelgarden2". Are there now WG, WG1 and WG2?

SpringRain🕊️ my grapes are very plentiful, but a bit smaller, too. I'm also thinking it's the heat.

SpringRain🕊️ , my current handle is wheelgarden2. The other is from my old account, which was thankfully archived after a computer crash a while back.

I hate to say it, but, you either take care of the turkeys, or just quit gardening.

I don't see why we can't learn to live with animals even if they do want to dine on our crops. After all, they have a right to live and eat just as we do. And humans have been trespassing and encroaching on their territories for some time, more so recently as areas are deforested and used for human expansion.
