Mumsey , lisaann binnylou , lilolpeapicker but I never spend $25 on any one order. Don't know what they charge for shipping on orders under $25 but could it be possible to work out something amongst you all. Maybe the one who wants the most seed- could put in an order for all of you, qualify for the free shipping and then that person could pop the seed pacs in a regular envelope at 50 cents a mailing. You guys could reimburse the one who orders the cost of the seed plus the mailing. Like creating a little garden co-op where people come together to get the best prices. Just a thought....

Pinetree is $3.95 up to a $24.99 order, very reasonable compared to others. I'm thinking seed pkg would make it an extra thick envelop, depending on the seed, which would cost more to mail. And does hand-stamping add to the cost, not sure about that.
But we would still be ahead of the $3.95 per order.

I know I have said I was done growing onions, but the ones available in the stores just aren't like what I have grown and stored in previous years. Lately, purchased onions have a leathery outer skin that needs peeled away...and peeled some more.
We use a lot of onion. Thinking...

I will be growing only 1000 of them this year instead of 1800......just brought more home from Dad's. They are keeping OK in the garage but some are starting to freeze. So figured I just as well bring them home and freeze them up. The white and yellow sweet spanish have been ordered. Gotta dig in the stash and see where all I purchased from last year. I'm pretty sure I got the Red Wing and Patterson from Pinetree.

Heck, onions take so little space in the garden, since you can plant them tight, or, for bigger ones, on 6" centers. Heck, even if you pull them small for a salad, I think planting onions are worth it. It's part of the trinity: onions, carrots, celery.................AND GARLIC!

I know, lisaann. I’ve just had a few less than satisfactory years. Have to think about it a bit.

binnylou, Go for it! Onions are the first thing to start, you get to see green! That's a good reason right there! My onions are storing well, still have quite a few left.

My seed order came today.
I am planting onions tomorrow. My potting soil is in the pot and seed tray and wicking up water from the bottom tray, and along with those onions, I gonna start some crazy daisy seeds I also received in the order. Dang, I scratched that out of my snail mail order, but they sent them anyway, so I must start them too.

binnylou, I'm just sticking to what I know works well here. I remember reading about those Dakota Tears, aren't they smallish?
