If you saw an ad on FB, somebody offering for sale, a box of battery acid/sulfuric acid...what would you do? The box has staining, as if it is leaking. She is looking for offers as she is cleaning out. I'm fearful of it getting into the wrong hands...or her just pouring it out on the ground or into the storm sewer.
I'm a worrier.

So am I. I lose lots of sleep over things I shouldn't. You can only do so much. Do whatever you can, given your personality/resources/etc. Others will have to do the rest, although in some cases you may be able to work together toward a greater good that neither of you could achieve alone. 2 people, 2 million people, whatever.

binnylou , Perhaps send her a private message and inquire as so it's use and that it looks like it has been leaking, in a respectful way suggest it be recycled for safety since it is a dangerous item. You could also message the administrator of the group for rules on what can and cannot be sold. This is a hazardous item! Maybe offer her nothing, just offer to dispose of it properly.

I have a hard time imagining anyone would want to buy that from her. So educating her seems like a good way to go and/or offering to help her dispose of it. She'll accept the advice/help... or not. I also am concerned that it shows sign of leaking.

Is this someone you know binnylou? If so she might listen but if not she may or may not be receptive to hearing what you have to say. So you need to choose what to do but be prepared for either reaction.

lilolpeapicker, no I don't know her, but have seen her posts on fb...she is nobody I'd want to do business with. I'd rather stay anonymous in this situation.

Some landfills have special ways to dispense with stuff like that. Generally you can drop it off at the landfill and they take it somewhere else so that it doesn't go into the ground.

Can you alert the Health Department?

I tried calling the landfill to see what the options are..no answer. I'll try again and am hoping they might address the issue. They probably have access to the FB ad.

In my county they have periodic "drop off" times, when people can drop off old paint, lawn chemicals, and things like the acid you refer to. Of course, in your case, somebody wants to make money off of it, rather than doing the proper thing.

Our local landfill does have periodic times for disposal/drop off of toxic items. For what ever reason, her ad disappeared. I'm guessing it was reported to FB. I'll watch for it, just in case it shows again.
Thanks for your ideas.
