Lots of dandelions blooming, but the bees not working them. What's up with that?

Lots of dandelions blooming, but the bees not working them. What's up with that? That is a good question. Maybe the dandelions have not started producing nectar yet, or there may be other flowers, like clover, that are drawing the bees away.

Violets are blooming before dandelions here this year. Odd. Haven't seen many bees yet, but wasps are plentiful.

Speaking of bees, We have those big Carpenter Bees buzzing around our front porch. There is a cedar beam that runs across the front of the house that they are drilling into. These guys are huge!!! They don't bother me but they are getting kind of annoying. I don't want to kill them but are there any suggestions on how to make them go away?

I don't want to kill them but are there any suggestions on how to make them go away? A barrier. I covered the bottom and sides of a plank bench with thin sheet aluminum, and that stopped them. Could you screen in the porch? Also, "Carpenter Bees attack unfinished wood under decks, sills, and decks first. Varnish or paint these wood surfaces to make them less attractive to these bees." doyourownpestcontrol.com/Carpenter_Bees.htm
