I so totally love those grasses but wasn't sure how to take care of them at the end of summer. Now I know and will have to look into getting some!

spike2, we have a patch of Zebra grass…at least 10 foot across at the base…much bigger at the top. We leave ours to dry and decorate the yard during winter. They turn such a pretty rusty brown…go flat under ice and snow, then become erect again when the ice is gone. There’s somebody using our patch for shelter. There’s a very obvious path in to the center of the patch. The dried grasses make great mulch between my raised beds. After Mother Nature has her way with the grass during winter storms, the seed heads are free of seeds.

There’s somebody using our patch for shelter. There’s a very obvious path in to the center of the patch. That hasn't happened to my Zebra, but the Pampas was host to some critter for a couple of years. Never found out what it was, but I figured it was the neighbor's tomcats, most likely.
