The household phoebe chicks have flown the coop, occasionally coming back to visit the old homestead. They've joined the rest of the crew everywhere else in the yard and garden. I learned today that they're in the tyrant flycatcher family. Not surprising --- those little birds are headstrong, determined and full of attitude. They sure do snatch the bugs. Birds of all sorts have been plentiful this year, pleasant sights to see and sounds to hear.

Most of the birds I hear lately are house wrens. Though I saw a blue bird here for the first time and I'm seeing yellow finches again.

I went into the back yard to pick some baby corn, and saw/heard a sentinel quail sitting on the top of a taller blooming sunflower. It was lovely in the late afternoon sun. I assumed there were chicks on the ground since at least 2 flocks have been visiting everyday. They don't seem to mind me too much, and since what I was picking was about 20 feet away, I proceeded slowly to the corn. Then I heard a commotion from the guard quail, who flew off, and saw a medium size hawk sweep in to where the babies must have been. I shooed it off, which I probably shouldn't have. Birds of prey gotta eat too. Cool to watch.

Was picking beans, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a sunflower dip down... it was a mourning dove checking the new blooms out to see if the seeds were ripe. It looked and inspected, then decided to let them ripen further and flew away. Of course, before I could grab the camera. I get the reason for the "mourning" part of their name, but to me they sound like peace, calm, and comfort.

There's a pair of Wrens building a nest in my birdhouse shaped water fountain on the deck. They are noisy little guys.

Wrens are everywhere in the garden. I walk out there and they scold me. A lot!

I don’t know when I’ve seen the birds enjoy the bird bath so much. I can clean and fill it, walk away, and within a minute there will be splishing and splashing. The cat bird may be the best “customer “.
The Orioles are still around…enjoying sipping from the hummingbird feeder.

Wheelgarden, I did for sure! I think they have a nest in Miss Kim lilac bush, they hang out there and make quite the racket. I was at the junk shop the other day and saw a cute wren house, one that actually has access to clean it out. So I got it, had to fashion a cover for the clean out hole and a way to hang it. Put it in a tree near the deck. Might be too late in the season for a new nest, but we'll see!

First coffee of the day was enjoyed on the deck this morning. I had watered the three hay rack planters/petunias and was just enjoying the cool air. A male cardinal comes in for suet and leaves with a small chunk. Then, immediately I hear the “honking” of the nuthatch. He’s cleaning the deck rail of suet crumbs. The next visitor is the male oriole coming in for some hummingbird syrup. Since I was sitting at the table and was too close to the feeder, all I got was a squawk and then he left.
Beautiful morning.

I've had a "Pink Lemonade" blueberry bush in a lovely blue ceramic pot on the deck for quite a few years now. Every year it blossoms & put out a few berries that I leave for the wildlife. This morning Mr. Breezy & I enjoyed watching a Catbird jumping up & grabbing the first few ripe berries from that bush. It's remained too small for any bird to actually perch in it, so they have to do the "jump & grab".

Mumsey either our wrens read your post through the window about your scolding wrens, or they have internet service themselves. I've been greeted with some unreal fussing and griping every time I go out...but they do have nests and chicks all over the place, so, there it is.
