Highlight the area you want to quote. The words Quick Quote will appear a little below it. Click that and then go down to Reply. Click that and the quote will appear below that. Type below the quote, outside the quote box. If you type in the quote box you will have a hard time escaping from there. At least I do, but I am sure there is another way out besides starting over. Got it, thanks!

The air is full of birdsong. Most of the regulars are present and accounted for. The hawks, crows, and jays are really having it out between each other. An unfortunate phoebe smacked the window this morning, but it seemed to shake it off okay.

Flycatcher has returned. I was working on filling a raised bed with compost/harvested soil, stopped for a rest, and heard the familiar wispy voice of the flycatcher. They are so fun to watch as they fly and dart head of my golf/garden cart.
The turkey vultures have returned in numbers. We had previously seen only one, but yesterday there were six of them soaring overhead, playing with the breeze…sometimes appearing to just hang in one spot.

Great to see the bluebirds back in numbers. Teamed up with the phoebes, we should have some good natural insect control out there.

Vultures arrived here last Thursday. I counted 18 in the neighbor's trees. Easy to see with no leaves. They take off at first light in the morning and come back around 7 at night. Busy buzzards! They must bring their kids back with them.

Well not in my garden, but saw a hawk carrying a snake today on my way home from picking up kiddo.

Great to see the bluebirds back in numbers. I saw a bluebird here the other day. Vultures arrived here last Thursday. I counted 18 in the neighbor's trees. Easy to see with no leaves. They like to perch in the tall pines, then hover overhead as if they're waiting for me to drop dead, LOL! I'm seeing the first robins too and hearing their beautiful song.

Saw a couple eagles on the edge of town yesterday, a common sight here lately.

The first bluebird sighting was today. He was sitting in the young Maple tree, in view from the kitchen window. Such a beautiful blue…he looked as if he just had a fresh coat of paint.

Refreshing the page works for me.
As for birds, I was picking blueberries today, and when the scrub jay stopped by for a berry or three, he was aggravated that I was there interfering with his berry buffet. They are unafraid. It's possible to train them to take a walnut from your hand. Pretty things.

Scrub jays...we don't have them here. We have the eastern blue jays...They'd scream and peck you to bleeding if you tried to hand-feed them. Ornery things, but I love 'em just the same. The phoebe family has built a new nest on the porch in the very same spot as last year's digs, I'm not surprised.

The neighbors next door have had swallows nest over their garage the past few years. Glad it's not my house... but they do eat lots of insects. I've see them flying around the past few days. Nice they are back.
Also, I've seen the first quail babies of the year. I could hear the guard quail, and when I looked over could just see the tiny balls of fluff scurrying about on the ground. I wasn't close enough to see how many there are however. Most years they come along the side of the house to forage and use the bird bath and I can watch them through the windows.
Update: I was quietly sitting in the front when the quail family walked by. There are at least 10 (11?) little babies. So cute.

Mr. Baltimore Oriole has arrived. I was sitting here watching the Decorah Mother Goose, looked up, and Mr. Oriole was sitting on the deck window sill, looking in the window.
Hubby immediately put out a half orange, came inside and Mr. Oriole was enjoying the orange within two minutes. He must be one of last year’s visitors.

Saw a couple of Flickers, which I haven't seen here in several years. I hope they stick around and join the bird renaissance going on this year. (Come back, bobwhite quail, redwing blackbirds, and indigo buntings!)
