Good morning All...
Add to yesterday's list...Sparrows...House Finches... And I happened to walk out front just as a hummingbird was visiting the tall Tithonias (Mexican Sunflowers)... That was neat...Hummingbirds are such delightful little creatures...

200 yard hike out back to shut off a water line. No birds seen. There is seed on the bird feeder. No birds. Where are the birds?

The sparrows are gathering, for what I don't know because they don't migrate. We have had an increase of hummingbirds! I went to go out the deck door yesterday and one was hovering about a foot from the glass at eye level, checking me out! There are zinnias on they deck that they visit. They also like the canna flower and cleome.

ahntjudy, yes they are quite large and noisy. They are scavengers. Quite a character that magpie is. They have built nests out back in my trees.

We had a pair of magpies build a nest in one of our trees, close to the house, a few years ago. After the babies hatched, and until they flew off, that family made such a ruckus! It was so noisy! So the following year when they started to build a nest again, in the same tree, we knocked it down at there first sign of building. It took several rounds: they'd start building; we'd knock it down. They finally got the hint and have never tried again.
But they sure are entertaining and like james said- quite a character.

Put out a hummingbird feeder, it's hanging from the garage gutter trough, about 6 feet high. Apparently that height is OK, they are coming! We see smaller ones perching on the feeder, a favorite spot seems to be the tree by the deck. So fun to watch.
In the evening we watch the crows and vultures riding the wind currents. Bluejays and cardinals at the feeder.

As I watched the hummingbirds buzz around the few remaining grapes on the vine, Mrs. Cardinal flew in and lit near a small cluster. She took her time and picked a choice grape, then casually munched on it while the hummers looked on. There was juice dripping out of her beak as she enjoyed it. Then she chose another one and flew off. Fun to watch.

The bluejays are making sounds I don't recall hearing before, so odd I went looking for what bird it was. Spotted it in a tree. It was talking to a friend farther away.

Today: Magpie, Eu Dove, Robin, HOSP, Finch, RWBB, Downy Woodpecker.
I toss a handful of dry catfood on the bird feeder. The Magpies love it.
