Early this morning, just after sunrise, hubby saw a large flying something take roost in the white pine tree that’s close to the deck. Even using binoculars, we couldn’t determine what it was. It was an Owl🦉 and I sure hope he isn’t planning to make that tree his home. That’s where kitty spends time when the temperatures are mild enough for her.

The Blue Heron has arrived from wherever he spends the winter. I think the pond where he fishes is still mostly frozen over, and If we get the predicted snow, finding food may be difficult.
Spring is on the way. Bird sounds are becoming bird music.

"Blue Heron" That is exciting. Big bird! I agree! They are a real treat when they come to visit. We use to get them when we lived along the Rio Grande, which is a migratory path. They would sometimes wander right into our orchard!

Great Blue Herons are beautiful. They're one of the few birds I know of that fly with their necks crooked back in an "s" shape, instead of extended straight. They sure do put up one loud, squawking cacophony when mating and nesting in numbers around our local lakes in spring.

The heron moved in to the area about the time that Neighbor Dave built his pond. The first year or two, we had frogs everywhere. It was like walking through the grass and having grasshoppers jump around our feet. We enjoyed the nighttime music of the bullfrogs down at the pond. Then the music stopped. A heron had moved in to the area around the pond. Even though he cleared the pond of frogs, he/she is still a beauty. One day I was lucky enough to be treated with a visit...he was on the yard, not far from the house.
I’m assuming there’s more than one bird visiting.

There hasn't been activity around here at my house except for Juncos but yesterday Starlings were back and this morning I saw a BlueJay. Down the street there were wild turkeys grazing the planting rows at a local veggie stand. Looking for more activity soon.

March 9, House sparrows and a red-winged Blackbird hitting the bird feeder. There had been a bunch of Eu Doves hanging around, but they are MIA. Heard a Robin, but they don't come to the bird feeder.
