I don't know the plans for the house, but I'll be surprised if the tree gets to stay. I'm going to want an update!! Trees are special beings.

lisaann, I think I have some of those, purchased last year but never planted. May be this year. I think my plan was to put them in the veggie garden, to attract pollinators.

put them in the veggie garden, to attract pollinators. They seem to grow pretty big, so I think the tree spot would be good for me. In my garden, it would hog up too much space.

Are they going to need support, like a big tomato cage?

Are they going to need support, like a big tomato cage? I hope not. I can if I have to, but I think that's ugly for months till they fill in the cage. BUT, a tomato plant in a cage waiting to fill it in is pretty. How would you analyze that? Am I a Tomato racist? hhaha

lisaann, I have grown tithonia before, aka Mexican sunflower. They get quite large and bushy, I didn't need to have support for them.

Yes, the Tithonia gets quite tall and bushy...many of them here stayed upright but many also toppled during some windy conditions... I staked the biggest ones last year but not this year...Just never got around to it...

I didn't check the seed pack, but when I made the purchase, I thought the plants would be maybe hip high...well perhaps to an elephant. I should read more.

I don't know about the seed pack height but Tithonia grow here, some probably a good eight feet...That's no fish story... They're huge and super bushy...They self seed and can take over an area... I love them...zero care and they attract Monarch's and other butterflies like crazy... That's always fun to watch...

ahntjudy , EEK! I love the pics! I am sitting here working on my order and I have the Torch flower on my list: www.superseeds.com/products/torch-tithoniaThey're huge and super bushy...They self seed and can take over an area... NOW that is interesting I haven't read that in any description. Are you saying that 1 plant covers 3 foot of ground? I was going to plant 3, about 2 foot apart in a triangle. Would that work right or not? I have never seen a full grown plant in real life.

lisaann...About the biggest plant here was easily 5' wide...many branches making up that width...and very tall... I also have them coming up voluntarily along a fence at the driveway...They grow fairly close together there...probably a foot or a few feet apart at the most and just grow together, intertwining, making a hedge like situation...It's pretty cool...
