Look for a stock tank that already has an opening at the bottom. (most of them do, some don't) Then all you have to do is go to the hardware store and buy a simple, inexpensive outdoor spigot/faucet and stick it in.

Yes, it's a simple process...go for it. Yesturday, I installed my first light fixture..it was so simple to do. I'd been waiting for hubby to replace it for more than a week...did it myself in 15 min. You can do anything you put your mind to.

What do you use around the hole as a sealer to protect from water leakage?

Pipe Dope (and no, it's not illegal)
It comes in a teflon tape and as a goop in a tube.

The Teflon tape is easy to use as well as the 2part glue..go for it.

Karen: I had a roommate that collected seed heads off things she wanted while going about her landscape job. I decided that was a neat idea, so when I go on my walks I do that too now; that's how I got that wisteria seed, I'm sure... she used to stab the whole seed head in the ground in one feld swoop - squish - done!
I carry sissors on my walks for cuttings for bouquets, the back of the van is basically a 'garden shed', I keep black bags for leaves and grass clippings and a rake, etc. (the CG doesn't have a shed, one has to bring their own everything...)
DW: do you have any seeds from your Russian sage?

Red- I haven't ever collected the seed, but I'm sure it must be out there on the ground. I'll look, later today. They're tiny. If I can't find them I'll have to wait until later this summer.
I'm wondering about shipping you a couple of baby starts (volunteers or runners). I would think they'd survive a couple of days in the mail if I sent them once they are well rooted in a 2" pot. Interested? How many would you want? I'm going to soon be digging some up for a friend here, as well.

Keep in mind that these get pretty big left to their own- around 4' tall and 3-4' wide. Depending on the size of the beds, one in each corner may be too much.
I'm happy to send you 4 but you might want to rethink where you put them.
(though you can control the size if you are diligent about pruning and pulling out runners and removing new shoots, etc)

I potted some up, yesterday. I'll give them a while to make sure they are rooted, before sending them. They don't always make it, so may have to repeat.
