I've not read of this connection before, so this was a shock to me. Pesticides can be linked to age-related macular degeneration. There are other contributing factors as well, including smoking, obesity, and genetic factors. 'Pesticide Use and Age-Related Macular Degeneration in the Agricultural Health Study", ehp.niehs.nih.gov/ehp793/Skip down to the paragraph "AMD risk was positively associated with age and smoking..." right before Table 1 for the results synopsis if you want to skim through the methodology and techniques used in the study. Or just skim down to the Conclusion. There's a lot of scientific and statistical analysis in the article and I skipped some of it as it's way beyond my comprehension. But I got the gist of the article in the connections with pesticides and AMD. Yikes! I haven't checked out these issues, subjects of podcasts (some of which were done more than a few years ago), and I'm not sure I want to as they're quite unsettling. But I thought they were worth mentioning. ehp.niehs.nih.gov/category/podcasts/Phthalates and Childhood Asthma (I've wondered and suspected for some time that asthma and even nut allergies had some basis in chemicals used on nut plants during the growth process) Exploring Links between Arsenic and Diabetes (another yikes!) Bite of Arsenic (from brown-rice syrup used as a substitute for high fructose corn syrup) Phthalates in Medicinal Products ( such as time-released capsules (I take pro-biotics occasionally and have wondered about the plastic coatings). These are very unsettling, even if some of the studies are several years old (I haven't checked for follow-up studies.)

Plastic coatings on probiotics? Are they Tablets or Capsules? It know tablets have substances in them to seal them in,. Capsules are either gelatin based from animal byproducts or Vegan from plant based cellulose. I'd choose the vegan but they can be price prohibitive.
All we can do is try to live as free of these substances as possible, through education and growing our own. Interesting, thanks for sharing. It caused me to research phthalates a little bit more.
