Do you participate? Feb. 13-16 this year!
gbbc.birdcount.org/
I've done it for several years now. You can count for 15 min. or all day long. You can count for only one day or all 4 days. The info is used in research. If you count, be sure to enter your counts at their site!

I've never done this before, but I'm going to! Thanks for posting the link. We have so many birds at our pond, outside the big window in our eating area.

I did it last year and I'll probably do it again this year.

Reminder - the Great Backyard Birdcount started today.
I just spent 15 minutes at my window counting birds at my feeder and counted 10 different species.
The count occurs over the entire world for 4 days Feb 13, 14, 15 and 16 so if you have a few minutes you can sign up and enter your observations.
I am heading out to some appointments and if I see any hawks on the wires or any other birds along the way I will enter them online too.
It's fun! Give it a try.

This would be interesting and fun, but honestly I haven't seen birds in this area for quite a few weeks. Even the squirrels are hiding! Maybe some local groundhogs sent out an animal e-mail for everyone to just stay inside until the temperatures are more reasonable.
Only thing I see out and about are people.

My counts are reported for today....23 species. Didn't really realize I was seeing that many in one day until I started doing these counts.

We were out driving around this morning and I added a flock of 100 snow geese to my count as well as 4 robins.

I haven't seen any robins yet this year. Last year our yard was full of them for a couple of weeks. We are on their route north.

We have some here year round but people do not notice them because they can't feed on the frozen ground so they are up in the trees. I have seen them eating my little tiny crabapples in the winter.

Yup. During a cold snap last winter I drove past a 3-story-tall mature Holly tree covered with red berries. There was no breeze, but the whole tree looked like it was moving. Turned out there had to have been at least 50+ Robins working that tree.

Hmmm...... thanks for the reminder. I went to the site and find I was already registered, so after guessing my password got logged on. I hadn't posted for a couple of years.
