So...the mole activity in the flower garden has calmed down....possibly due to the potato fork directed at moving soil. Now, this morning, I have a brand new hole in the flower garden...probably a chipmunk. I think he knows I planted the dahlias. I "just happen to have" a brand new bottle of red fox urine. Do you suppose a dribble or two of that down the open hole would make the chipmunk think about moving on down the road?

Sriracha sauce works around here. If nothing else, the critters appreciate having the seasoning.

We have a chipmunk, he is like a streak of lightning! We call them ground squirrels but I know there is a difference. He moves so fast I never see the stripes on his back! I haven't found any tunnels yet. Last fall he took to storing acorns in my car's fan compartment.

Welcome to my world. Last year we set up a bucket that they would climb into a drown. It felt so wrong when we were doing it but it really reduced the population. I have seen a few this year and might have to set the bucket up again.

Hmmmm, poke the garden hose in the hole and turn on the water. Have your shovel handy.

I catch chipmunks by putting a rat trap on a path that they take off on when I scare them. Works every time! Fortunately, I don't see them around too often.

I'm thinking of that in the garage, we keep the door closed but he must have a way in! I never see any tunnels....he must live elsewhere.

Here we have three free ranging cats, outdoor cats, they do not come in the house. They have the run of the outbuildings and surrounding property. We do feed them dry cat food, but they are free to forage on their own too. Mice, rats, chipmunks, squirrels not a problem here.

datgirl, tell me about your bucket/chipmunk method, please. They are back, numbers are high. When the fox was around, the chipmunks disappeared. And I’m not hearing the owls, probably since the younguns would have left the nest. The most recent area they are digging in to is under and around the old Oak in our front yard. I caught one in a rat trap. I have ordered two more traps. I put the dead one on the burn pile. I may look to see if he’s still there and stuff him down the hole at the base of the Oak. Would that deter them? Everyday, there is a new hole in the flower garden…it has a lot of mulch and it’s easy digging. Hubby just told me that he heard owls during the night

It's kind of brutal. Fill a tall bucket half way with water, spread sunflower seeds on the water, they will float. Put a stick or board up so they can climb into the bucket. They see the seeds and jump in and eventually drown. It worked, but I can't bring myself to do it again. We have them again, so I have pots on the deck covered with nets.

datgirl, I can handle brutal. I had seen this method on the net, but wasn’t sure if it worked. For the digging and damage they are doing, I can waste a few sun flower seeds. We don’t dare to leave the garage doors open when we are working around the yard. Maybe I should bring my fake garden owl up to the house and park it beside the garage doors.

The rat traps arrived and peanut butter/sunflower seeds is the bait. Today was chipmunk number 7.
I ordered two more traps. Some of the digging in the flower bed has slowed down, but our retaining wall of limestone is a real hot spot for them. The word must be out because I saw one headed across the road, headed for the timber.
