I have a few juncos but not as many as usual this time of year.
I saw my first western bluebird and western kingbird in the garden over the weekend, common locally but never in my garden before. Also hummingbirds are getting more conspicuous but I suspect these are just the overwintering ones taking advantage of all the new flowers opening.

"Maybe they came here James!"
Perhaps so. The bird numbers are down here this season. Have 4 or 5 Juncos, a couple of E. Sparrows, and 2 House Finches, 4 or 5 magpies. Its still winter here, with 18 degrees F this morning and a foot of snow still on the lot. No bees a flying.........

brownrexx James davidjp Mystery of the white birds solved!!!! I talked to the neighbor today, he knows everything. He said they are pigeons. I said they can't be, why just a flock of white ones? He said there is a reason for that.....a guy at the end of the next block got homing pigeons 3 years ago. Decided he didn't want them, so gave them to another guy down the same block. One day the second owner just opened the coops and let them go! And they still hang around this area. It's quite a flock, I imagine they have reproduced. They also hang out at the top of the grain elevator 4 blocks away.

That's probably the clue as to why they are doing so well right there. Although i'd imagine they would try and be careful not to let too much out loose but inevitable some would. I don't think they'd do too well around here theres just too many birds of prey that would probably make easy pickings of them. Here there are some released flocks of parrots that seem to do well, so don't know how they survive but they are quite noisy birds and wouldn't surprise me if they came to each others aid. Parrots are very intelligent birds.
I actually like to see pigeon flocks, the way they move in flight. Just as long as they don't land on my house.
