True to form southern nurseries deliver in expectation of their springs arrival. So Tyty out of Georgia delivered yesterday just in time for the heaviest snowfall (and coldest night).
St Lawrence will be more than a month behind delivering from Up-state NY.
I get Tyty's tree-babies heeled into something just as soon as I can waddle my fat asterisk through the powder-snow, and get to the soil barrels.

it's so interesting how different the two sides of the country are right now. we've had the warmest winter I've seen (7 years) it feels strange to be looking at spring, when - wait - winter never happened? 60's during the day 40's at night this week again.
the CG garden coordinator dude put out his first broadcast email to see who's still in.

With all the problems most folks have had with the TyTy Nursery, I won't buy from them mail order. I don't live that far from them so if I want something they carry we will drive over and I can select good, healthy plants to purchase.
I know at one point they had threatened Dave's Garden due to all the bad reviews that were posted there.
There have been a few places that don't consider the weather in the areas they are shipping to...only the weather in their location. I had one place ship me iris rhizomes that got cooked in our black mail box with our 100+º heat! And they didn't want to give me any replacements either...can't remember their name..."something" & Zimmerman (I think). But when I had the problem I realized that they were only "brokers" for plant starts, etc....they don't grow any of their own.

GOOD LORD!!! TyTy is STILL IN BUSINESS???? I'm SHOCKED. They've been touted as the very worst nursery on the planet. Have had more complaints & maybe a few lawsuits against them for a decade or more. How do they do it?

Breezy, if you got to their physical location you can get some really nice plants & trees. It's just the mail order that is so pathetic. I've been several times but not recently and I haven't bought anything from them in quite some time either.
And Tyty is one of those towns that sprouted up along the RR....not much there and not too many people either.

I hate to say this but this lot are fairly nice trees. If USPS-UPS didn't set length of box limits the trees might be a little less cut-to-fit.
Yesterday with our snow drifts moslty melted, I potted up the remainder of castenea to finish their germination nested against cold nights. Chestnut and chinkapin are on threir way.

And yes, I am guilty of shopping from the bottom of the market.

I ordered some apios americana yesterday. Sand Mountain Herbs is the underpricer that I have found this year (and most years for this legume-tuber).
It like most everybody else has few stocks. So it sells through often. Some years I gets some tubers, others I don't.
I found no seed offers of apios this year. ((shrugs))
This is another of my bucket-list food forest projects.

Mussers delivered azalea today. Cute little rooted cuttings; that are seriously inflaming my hoarding gland. They came potted so I will let them loaf for a few days before enlarging their kingdom (pots).
Red, and "Orchid", a new-to-me color...

The rest of Mussers came a couple days back. One more azalea bundle, and bundles of bald cypress and english oak.
