That is heart breaking. And it makes you wonder how it will affect the health of humans- especially children and elderly.

Bad deal. Surely those appliers would know it kills honey bees and should have got the word out to the beekeepers so they could close up the hives that day?

Change of subject, has anyone else noticed their bumblebees are enormous this year? So many of mine are huge...

Yes, I did. Many in the flowers were over an inch long. When they're that size, I never worry about the hem bothering me.

The big ones here are drone carpenter bees. They get big, look like a black bumble bee on steroids.

Yes carpenter bees are shiny black on their hindquarters. Many people hate them because they bore into wood but they are tremendous pollinators. I have an old post and rail fence adjacent to my garden and I don't care if the bees bore into that and it is full of holes but they are also all over my flowers and garden plants pollinating them. I like them.
My house has steel doors, vinyl siding and stucco so they don't bother the house. Older homes can have quite a problem with Carpenter Bees and they love old barns.

LOL!! In flight, bee booty is a blur, just get out of the way. Like when those Cicada Killers show up, just run. That is one ugly wasp. I had one fly past me, and right into a metal pole. Full steam, right into a pole, could hear the ping when it hit. An entire world to fly around in, and it flew full speed into a pole, had to be the dumbest bug ever. I thought it was dead laying there, must have been knocked out since I put some dirt over it, but dirt was moved and it was gone later. Bet it never made that mistake again.

They are loud alright, especially after flying into poles...lol. I had never seen one before a few years, and bumble bees were rare. Then one year planted way too late, yard was lit up like a Christmas tree with blooms late, all kinds of creepy crawlies and bees showed up. So every year plant somethings really late since all that color is like a pollen dinner bell. Thought about a "Ring Of Life"; a donut shaped ring about half way up a phone pole, with a chicken wire type lid. That way tree rats and birds can't mess with it. Have self sowing early and late plants, a side watering tank that refills with rain, bees miss direct pesticide spray(Can raise it if not high enough), have late season pollen if they are starving, maybe come back with a vengeance. All those millions of poles...they would go that high, asked a bee expert, but no way in a million years would the phone companies go for it. Oh well, was a thought.
