pepperhead212, What do you do to prevent hitch hiking insect pests that come in with outdoor plants?

Fall is definitely in the air! This will be the last 70-ish day. Friday night is predicted to be 31°.

I woke up to 41 degrees this morning and the indoor temperature is at 61. It may be time to see if the furnace still works! The next few days should be a bit warmer but the trend is downward and no frost for the next two weeks at least. Highs are predicted between 55 and 68. I guess I should retire the shorts and go find my bibbed overalls.

Mumsey Besides the DE I put in the soil when planting, and on top of the soil, a few weeks before bringing them in, I water them with a couple of things on the soil. First, some spinosad, and a week or so later, a dilute solution of orange oil and neem oil - about 2 tb/gal. After trimming them way back, I water with some Bt israelensis - for preventing spider mites, and I do that every couple of months, once indoors. I look again closely, before bringing them indoors, but I rarely see any insects at this time - it's late in the indoor season that they sometimes appear, and I have to watch closely for them. Got down to 46° overnight, but it's back up in the 60s, so I might have to change back into my shorts again! Not nearly as windy as yesterday, which is good.

Official frost/freeze warning Friday 1 am-9 am. OK with me, except for the walking part. I'm growing to hate walking in cold weather, the time has come to get out the heavier coat.

27° at 0420. It has risen to 29°. Things will be droopy and dead after sunrise. That's OK, time to kill off the bugs.

We had frost, but it was out in the field. Noting close to the house or in the garden. Must be the micro climate.

Some things got totally frosted and dead, other things weren't phased. Yet. Yesterday was a beautiful day, now rain most of today.

We got more rain yesterday than on any given day all season, so much that the sump pump is running. I don't know how much, we put the rain gauge away last week. Birdbaths are full. Princess went out but refused to leave the deck. Had to finally drag her to the yard at 8:30 last night! She was quick about her business.
