Gee claude- any chance you got your generator working? Did you lose trees on your property? I hope you are at least comfortable in your home, while waiting.

Yesterday took my grand daughter out for a birthday treat- mani-pedi. Took along her Mom (my daughter Malky) and my youngest daughter, Tsirel. Afterward, Tsirel and I went to the grocery. As we were checking out, Malky called saying the wind had picked up and trees were down all over. She suggested taking the relatively treeless Central Avenue. We went down Central only to find yellow tape up because of a leaning light pole. Did a u-turn just in time to see another tape being set up for another problem in back of us. Luckily there was an entrance-way to a parking lot. Drove the wrong way, but managed to get around the obstacles. Drove home being careful not to stop under any trees. Where there were trees, we drove a bit faster, like that would make any difference if one fell. There were trees all over, including a giant pine tree whose roots pulled up someones entire front yard.
Got home and moved a few plant trays so we could park way up in the driveway away from trees.Electricity went out. Luckily the vulnerable branches in our giant mulberry had already broken off in the storm a few weeks ago. Went out in the evening and put trellises back up, re-staked a few tomatoes, turned the hammock and frame right side up and picked up a few green tomatoes and hot peppers. Garden looked fine today, with the beans standing back up after lying flat in the winds.
Last night was hot and dark. We drove around the neighborhood to see how many were without electric. The part of the community where Malky lives still had electricity. Our half did not. It was funny to see that in almost every driveway someone was in the car watching videos, charging phones and enjoying air conditioning. I am always nervous about using candles inside for light, but my son-in-law connected us with a neighbor who was distributing battery powered lights. Brought us one with a car charger. Loved being able to see where my food was on my plate and not walking into walls trying to go out of my room.Electric was back on right before noon today, so refrigerated foods didn't have to be moved to Malky's freezer. Lot better than the last big storm (Sandy) where we went a week until we got a generator and then waited some more for electric to come back on. Have to count our blessings.

Glad you made out with minor problems, compared to many, gardendmpls. Hope the things speed up for you, claude. And I hope nobody else had any major problems created by Isaias. I consider myself lucky to just have a few broken stems from plants, and a bunch of branches down in my yard! One of my cousins lives over in PA in Bucks Co., about 7 miles from where one of those 5 tornados touched down. She was lucky - only about 12 hour power outage. When Sandy hit, hers was out for over a week, and her husband got two generators (for free, of course), that "needed work on them". I will say he fixes a lot of things, but those are still sitting in their garage, needing work on them. She busted out laughing when I asked her if he had gotten at least one of them fixed. She said to me "you always know how to make me laugh!"

claude, gardendmpls, Hope your power is restored quickly and you suffered little damage. I last checked our weather forecast on Tuesday and at that time it wasn't forecasted to rain today. So I headed outside, dug out some potted potatoes and pulled the onions up as I don't really see that leaving them any longer will make a difference. It got cloudy, it started raining, and now it's pouring. At least I was able to cover the onions and potatoes before it started.

Another .35" of rain this morning - it wasn't flooded in my area, from the storm, but this could have made things worse for those that were trying to clean up after the storm. Temps are down, but humidity way up!

Dry dry dry. The grasshoppers are becoming plentiful. Temps expected to climb for the weekend. Rain looked promising yesterday, but fizzled out when it got near us.

The storm I just had was more intense than when that tropical storm came through, except for the low wind. It rained 1.2" in about 40 minutes, and there was almost constant lighting and thunder. The first crack of thunder I heard was about the loudest of the year! There was a tornado warning south of here, through N Delaware, and S Jersey, and this area was on the northern edge of that storm, so I can only imagine how bad it was further south.
Update - I thought the storm was pretty much over, with the sky brightening up, but I just had a really bright bolt of lightning, and one of those "wake the dead" cracks of thunder, almost simultaneously, so that was close by! The rain went up to 1.35", and it is still raining.

Currently we are under the gun for severe thunderstorm. Winds of 70 to 80 mph. We are getting some rain, but it’s too late for some farmers. Neighbor Dave said his friend to the northwest has started chopping his corn crop for silage. No corn yield.
I’m not sure if dry / thirsty corn plants will survive these winds.
These times are surely a test....
*****
adjacent countY to the north just reported a wind of 99 mph.

Something blew thru here a few hours ago. Driving home from work was bad. Downed trees, rain, wind, hail. Some roads had minor flooding. Glad when I pulled in my driveway.

Glad you got home safe! datgirl, Here it is hot again. In the nearly 40 years I've lived here I've never seen it stay this hot for this long and well into August. This is just weird.

From what I've seen in the news you may have encountered the edge of a derecho.
