Temperatures in the 60's, surf report.....I am really getting envious here, folks! Can I send you some of our snow? It really is quite lovely, especially in the morning when the sun rises and shines on the crystals, creating the impression of rhinestones or diamonds resting softly in a blanket of fluffy white.

Surf report: Alright dudes and dudettes, a high pressure system is expected to push northeasterly off the Pacific where it will confront the low out of the northwest creating Santa Ana winds across the Southland. Additionally, over the next few days we will have a high surf advisory, 4' to 10' with some sets up to 12'. The offshore winds will clean the wave face and make for peaky conditions but riptides are likely so check local conditions. A small craft advisory will be in effect. Should make for good viewing conditions down at the "wedge" in Newport, scary stuff.

We should ask Veggie Gal for a report on the Wedge. It is such a short shore break I don't go near it any closer than the pier. P-)

Tonight was supposed to stay above 40º, but we have dropped 3º in the last hour. We are down to 45º right now and it always drops 4-5 degrees from now til sun rise. I think I need to go turn on my garden house lights to try to keep the temps up a bit in there! :( Then we have 4 nights of 20's coming!

Back to winter here. High winds, below zero wind chills. Princess has to be practically thrown out the back door. She is not liking it.

I know we always say the weather is "weird", but this really is weird! Over 4 days - a high of 38, next day a high of 20, next day a high of 34, next day a high of 17. (nj) really weird. yesterday was beautiful, sunny, blue sky, high of 34 or so. Being a texas gal, never thot I'd call a high of 34 beautiful, but I did enjoy yesterday, knowing what is coming. Even after this freeze that should arrive here Sunday, they say the 'coldest temps in decades' - I hope they are being overly dramatic. the next week is then forecast to be lower than normal. However, my happiness is not dimmed bec. : Spring is around the corner, days are much longer, sun is stronger - I am 67, I have to be careful of ice, otherwise I am not too bothered. Spring will be that much sweeter when it arrives. I DO hope these unusually cold temps do not kill my perennials like it did last year.

Winds are currently absolutely horrendous here. Temps cold (just a hair above freezing, not counting the wind chill). And even though the sun is full out, we just had a huge, if brief, snow squall come through. Watching snow come down while the sun is out. Now THAT is weird - lol!!
Have the horses done, but still need to feed & walk the "hounds from hell". Am not looking forward to it in these howling cold winds.

Breezy, I shudder every time I read about your having to go around to feed your animals. You must have a lot of dedication to care for them so kindly. I think what you need is either a covered walkway or some kind of tunnel between your house and the animal abodes!!
And here in SE Michigan, once again we're going to be hiding in our homes as more subzero temperatures and wind chills batter us for a few days, offer one day or so or relief, then take up residence for another several days.
I think this winter is going to be a record for subzero temperatures and wind chills, not that that makes it any more tolerable.
But hopefully it'll take care of a lot of the unwanted insect population, and maybe some unwanted "volunteer" plants as well.

We dropped all the way down to 26º early this morning! Not supposed to get above the mid 50's today.
And I know, that's warm to most of you, but it isn't to us down here. They showed our averages last night on the local tv weather and we are 10º or more below our normal this time of year!

A low of 13...currently 21 and sunny. The sun has so much warming power in it. The cat parks herself in the sunniest spot in the living room. I am so looking forward to feeling the sun on my back...preferably outside and without benefit of multiple layers of clothes.

spring rain, I'm glad you mentioned insect population. Knowing that these unusually cold temps are (hopefully) freezing the life out of many ticks, makes it easier to bear, in fact makes it positively welcome!
In central jersey we are at about 10 degrees - that was a couple of hours ago - may have "warmed up" a little. The sun is bright and gorgeous.

Brutal here this morning. Still in the teens at 11:30 a.m. Just came in from throwing the hooved gang a bunch of alfalfa, as well as doing my best to sledgehammer ice out of the water tubs. Couldn't get all of them (but no worries - they do all have water available), so may drag out Mr. Hose with some hot water from the basement later &/or get Mr. B to do some sledgehammering when he gets home tonight. What fun!

It's climbing back up to the 60's today and through the weekend. Rose bushes and lilacs have broken dormancy. Waaaaay to early. Fruit trees too. I cleaned up a flower bed yesterday- barefooted. I admit, I loved it. But it's not right.
