In a more protected spot...Those irises came from my Ahntie's garden in Massachusetts decades ago...

So sad. I saw lots of trees like that around here from those straight line winds a couple of weeks ago. I hate seeing that. Looks like we didn't get the ice that you did yesterday. We got mostly snow and that suits me. I hate ice storms. They really damage trees and shrubs.

There are lots of limbs down and mainly the evergreens...They took a real beating... B-|

Just as an update...The white pine up at the corner is still standing... :( The tree people came and 'neatened it up' a bit...
That tree is on property that is just recently up for sale...Too bad for the lady...Not a good selling point...

The flowering quince buds took a slight beating in last week's snow...Too bad as it's loaded with nice big buds...But they'll mostly be ok... It always shines as the best consistent bloomer in the yard...That's one tough shrub...Too bad it doesn't bloom longer... It traveled home here as a twig in a Dixie cup, taken from Mom's cousin's shrub in Massachusetts...way long ago...

This was neat...It was this giant feather in the sky... Looked like it had just broken off of the big cloud...

My mint is coming up! Actually, I saw one or two poking through a week ago, just before that storm, but now there are dozens of them. Didn't see any other perennials yet, except for chives, which didn't really seem to die off.

Been workin' on this... Man, what a great pile of chips!... I told you that the tree guys down the street stopped the first day due to lightning... When they came back the next morning, the truck they had was over a good half full already... When they got done down there, it was a full truck... The trees down the street were oaks, maple, others and some pines... Huge mound...At its high point it's taller than I am... As I started into the pile, I found that the previous days trimmings were all pine...and lots of White Pine...Which is exactly what I would want to use in the first place for mulching if I had the choice... Not a ton of too large pieces...There are some sections that have more ground needles mixed in...that has a nice fluffy 'tilth' to it... So I've been able to selectively use 'different' mulches from the pile as needed for my various beds and pathways... I imagine that the pine chips came from clean ups of the many pine limbs that came down in that recent sleet/snow storm... There are still piles of limbs awaiting attendance here and there... I had planned to buy that cheap $10/yard mulch last year, but just never did... Pretty glad about that now... Sometimes procrastination pays off... ;) All that this beautiful stuff cost me was a nice tip! :( That wheelbarrow is older than I am...probably the rake and shovel too...

Nice pile, Judy! And yes, there are many more out there to be cleaned up, at least in all these towns I drive through every day. I just talked to some today, that were cleaning up an entire tree that came down. I wish I had a place to put it, as I would have asked them! One guy said that they had been working on those since the snowstorm, and still have a bunch of pines to clean up.

All the hyacinths are in full bloom now...delightful scents... Grape hyacinths did well this year... The bumble bee was asleep there for the longest time...
