brownrexx Went out and checked after work. I don't see any beetles anywhere. Maybe to hot for them??? Can only hope! 90 and humid here today. I sprayed the cedar water on the 9th.

Maybe it actually works. I will keep this in mind. I was feeling discouraged at the sheer numbers of them even though I kept picking them off. They had started on my beans so I bought one of the traps.
I modified a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and placed the vanes and bait on top of it. There is about 6 inches of water in the bottom. I placed it about 50 feet away from the garden and over the weekend when I was away the trap caught about 2000 of them.
Now either they have lost their taste for asparagus or the trap is helping. Previously I would have 50 - 75 on the asparagus at any time and tonight I picked off 5 beetles. The beans also had 5 beetles.

I sprayed the cedar water again, it seems to deter them for about 4-5 days. Good enuf for me!
On another note, the bunny nest we had in the side yard (away from the fenced back yard) was vacated a couple days ago. The next day I found a mauled baby bunny in the grass garden. I'm sure Princess was the perpetrator. Tonight I was out picking beans and I heard squeeling. She had one trapped in the daisy patch under the compost bin. She pulled it out, poor thing was nearly a goner, innards coming out. She allowed me take it from her while it was taking it's last breath.
Survival of the fittest. I try to think that, though hate to see babies of any kind of critter perish. Then I think one less rabbit to destroy things next season.

I agree Mumsey. Kaner chases the rabbits but has yet to catch one.

Then I think one less rabbit to destroy things next season. I think you mean one less baby to grow up and make more babies to chew on stuff this fall. Heck, by next year, you will be invaded. Better hope the princess gets as many as she can. They aren't on the endangered species list.

Our cat, before she retired, caught rabbits and bunnies all the time. Sometimes 2 or 3 a day! Now that she is 17+ she just doesn't have the same coordination, vision and hearing to be successful. She is an old lady now.

desertwoman And she deserves to be pampered in her old age! She has earned her keep.

And pampered she is Mumsey . (though she didn't need to reach old age for that!) She still goes out to sniff the fresh air and take a short stroll through the gardens, but she is back in the house within 10 minutes. I think she realizes she doesn't feel secure out there any longer, with her senses compromised.

This guy, hanging out in the Black Eyed Peas, kept me company for quite some time yesterday...

That's a beautiful photo, ahntjudy. What kind of insect is that? Is it a locust?

A cicada, restless ... More often heard than seen here... Unusual to have one within sight for quite a while...and so close... I love its delicate wing structure...and body camouflage...

Wow, even in his prime, my best cat hunter would not catch rabbits. Not even the smaller cotton tails we have locally. My old boy, a traditional tabby, lived to 20. He sadly passed just last week. Up until the last week, he still loved window sun, food and being brushed. Then his systems just shut down, and it was time.

On my front door, there has been the prettiest hawk moth. Too bad their larvae can be so destructive. But he/she is so pretty, I'll leave him alone.
Life goes on.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat gianna. 20 years is a good long life. Did you have him most of those 20 years? According to the chart I have he was a 96 year old in human years!
