It is snowing!
Furnace keeps coming on to remind you it is cold out there. 41 degrees and sunny at the moment with a couple inches of snow on the ground.
Won't be growing anything except for ice until May.

I'm truly considering about getting a garden arbor for my backyard. But I'm not quite sure what flowers should I take for it. What can say about it, as an expert?

gregory13m, if you want to grow annuals, morning glories are great for an arbor, as are roses - a rose covered arbor seems to create a sense of an aged garden, lovingly tended with beautiful roses. Clematis is another option.

My yard attracts many bees and wasps... I notice that wasps like to visit and crawl around on the wooden clip clothespins...I've often wondered what the attraction is... I think of Tom in times of silly questions like these...I believe he would have had an answer... I think of Tom very often...He was family...I really miss him...

ahntjudy , your post got me wondering too about wasps, as I have had a number of nests built in corners of a wooden pergola on my patio. Apparently some chew on wood to build their nests and must like the worn corners of your clothespins. Wasps use wood

We have nuisance wasps on both cedar decks. While cleaning them I knocked out a dozen nests. They are back with a vengeance! They don't really bother us but we have to be careful going in and out the doors so they don't sneak in. Got a wasp trap, but apparently they are not looking for food. They like to hide inside the folded umbrella at night. And they gravitate toward the kitchen exhaust fan.

Well I learned something new today. When I looked at the picture ahntjudy , posted I mistakenly thought it was a yellow jacket. Did some searching and discovered it's actually a paper wasp, which I'd never heard of. Found this article which explains some of the differences wasps.ucr.edu/wasp-identificationOh and I miss Tom too! Strange that I've only been here a year, yet y'all are like family.

I mistakenly thought it was a yellow jacket. We had paper wasps around when i was growing up in Texas. Didn't hear of yellow jackets until we moved to New York.

This morning, I looked out the front window just in time to see a ground hog trotting across the yard. Fooey!!
I know where the trap is located. I’ll be moving it close to the garden shed. He probably hasn’t had an apple for a few months. I found a “questionable “ one in the crisper. Carrots worked last time, so maybe a few pieces of carrot along with the apple.
But first, I had to finish the last of the onion planting. There was just a few waiting to be planted, and I just needed them done. I watered the newly planted, even though my tshirt was getting wet from that strange stuff falling from the sky.
Right now, we are getting heavy sprinkles...hope it continues all day, all night.

pondgardener... The article you posted about the wasps turning wood into paper was spot on... That is exactly what is going on out there... I have also observed that the wasps only land on and use the wood from the older, not the new clothespins, which makes sense... The other day, it was calm and quiet, the wasps were very active in their gatherings, I got up close and personal with one and saw and heard the scraping noise of the queen's mandibles scratching on the clothespins as she gathered... That was pretty cool... Thank you for doing the research and finding the answer for me!... I have quite a few clip clothespins out there keeping the floating row covers closed and have learned over the years to make sure there are no wasps hanging out on the pins before grabbing for them...

Planted hundreds of saved castor bean seeds today...
Tom grew castor beans... I dedicate this and all future castor bean plantings in honor and in loving memory of Tom...
