davidjpI love California poppies! Do you ever go for the drive out towards Lancaster? I think they now have an official Reserve. But when I was still living in SoCal 40 years ago it wasn't so official. We just went out and romped in the fields of poppies. And hardly ever saw another human. That is one of my favorite spots in the world- those fields of CA poppies speak to me!

I have a couple of times but I think the years I went weren't really banner years. But still very lovely, hundreds of acres of flowers. I think this year could be a once in a decade year. Any relatives you need to visit round here in a month or two?
Planning on going down to the desert in Anza Borrego in the next week or so.

Its prime desert flower season at least in the lower Colorado desert. Good winter rains have brought out a nice display. This all within Anza Borrego california desert state park, 600,000 acres en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anza-Borrego_Desert_State_ParkDesert wash with desert sunflowers, sand verbena and evening primrose Evening primrose Desert lily Ocotillo blooming Bigelows monkeyflower Desert dandelion beavertail cactus Trail lined with encelia's And appropriately at the end of the trail a small palm oasis with native California fan palms Some tall palms Nice and cool inside the palms And some tranquil pools to enjoy before the hike back You'd think it was a quiet place but lots of croaking going on, frogs in the desert And judging by the number of caterpillars and the vastness of the area there will be a mass butterfy migration this year

I'm sure there will be some equally good displays in New Mexico this year. Its really a once in a decade bloom out there now
