All of your words are most encouraging. I said to myself this morning, "Ok, we are one day closer to feeling good!" I am doing PT everyday here at home, and going to town twice a week. I did have trouble with the pain meds and my GI track - ugh!
Again thanks for the light at the end of the tunnel

I did have trouble with the pain meds and my GI track - ugh! Did you make sure to have food in your stomach when taking them? I find that helps me.

I did have trouble with the pain meds and my GI track - ugh! I used to keep a bag of saltines in the bedroom and when I took pain meds at night I ate saltines first. It helps. ...and if you mean lower in your GI tract, then take those generic stool softeners. I know it's gross to talk about but the pain meds cause constipation and the stool softeners help with that. I think that I took the pain meds for the first 2 weeks but I didn't need them after that. I absolutely couldn't believe this but Tylenol extra strength actually worked after I quit taking the Percocet. I never though that Tylenol would work but it did. I would advise you to give it a try later when you are ready to try something less strong.

I know it's gross to talk about but the pain meds cause constipation and the stool softeners help with that. Yep. My wife is on oxycodone and others for the rest of her life, and it's one of the side effects. She's had 3 spine/nerve surgeries and could use another if they could figure out what to do. I've been on things like that for short periods after surgeries, but it didn't bother me much. I do seem to remember them telling me to back down to Tylenol something and get off the percocet/oxycodone/ocycontin/whatever ASAP.

I went and got the staples out yesterday, and talked to them about pain medicine. I am trying something else, and I slept well last night, dramatic improvement in pain management, and not a narcotic. I did take them today, and was sleepy, but I was also very exhausted, tossing and turning trying to find relief all night for the last week. I napped quite a bit today, but my morale is much improved. I just stopped taking the narcotics, they made me so sick, and the Tylenol was not enough at this time, as I was a little nervous about taking too much as it can cause some liver damage.
I just feel stronger, and am thinking that tomorrow will be even a better day. Last night as we came home, we were not 15 miles out of town, when my husband could tell the pain was better, he said I quit groaning at each bump.
Thanks for all your support - I am excited about taking the new tool out to the garden soon

Isn't it amazing how pain affects our well being, I am so happy that you are finally getting some rest and relief mrskIt is true that tylenol can cause liver damage but for the short time you will be taking it won't be a problem The damage occurs after prolonged use. Some people take it for years.

Yes, just be careful to monitor the number of hours (it's either 4 or 6 depending on strength) between doses and you should be fine.
I am happy that you are seeing some improvement. It's a really good sign of things to come.

At the risk of putting a hoodoo on it, I'm here just to praise once again my heavy-duty folding, wooden-handled, steel bladed military shovel. Only had two over the last 29 years. Does it all, and perfect for my seated position. Just about couldn't do without it.

folding, wooden-handled, steel bladed military shovel The E-tools with wooden handle are the best, I spent many nights out in the field with one, wasn't gardening though.

Thanks martywny , I'm going to have to replace mine soon. I've found the old style (c. Vietnam-era) at surplus stores before, but rarely see them anymore. It's got to be tougher than nails, and long-lasting. I'll check the E-tools version out (have a link?)

I found one of those in my dad's garage when we were cleaning it out. I use it occasionally.

I'll check the E-tools version out (have a link?) That's what we call the Vietnam era version, an e-tool. I have a friend in the surplus business and will give him a call tomorrow. If anyone can come up with them, he can. I'll let you know.

I agree, Lat. when mine went missing, I ordered a new one. Found #1...now I have two. I find it to be a shoulder saver when it’s time to mix and stir components of the planting mix.
