We moved the chicks out of the garage and into their new home today. They seemed a little confused at first but hopefully will adapt quickly.

I think I see you have wire across the top to keep the hawks out and a layer around the bottom to keep the raccoons from grabbing the chickens through the wire and dismembering them. Do you have anything to keep predators from digging under?

We moved the chicks out of the garage and into their new home today Coons, foxes, & coyotes will be feeding babies soon in our zone. Be sure to close the coop at night until you get the perimeter dig proof.

Wize words. I thought the same. I introduced my chicks inside a small dog crate placed inside a fenced area like that...they were gone all but one the next morning. Heads Pulled thru the fencing material...heartbreaking. Lock them inside overnight. There are no do overs. Sorry.

Good advice. Planning to move my pen area into the backyard which given the location means two sides will then be accessible to burrowing critters. Current spot is hardscaped on all four sides.

Everybody seems pretty comfortable with their accommodations and they’re definitely getting their mature plumage. The rooster hasn’t found his voice yet.

Our young rooster has found his voice! I think he might need crowing lessons or at least lots of practice!!😂😂😂

I think he might need crowing lessons They get good at it pretty fast. Good and loud. Thousand dollar fine for a rooster here, so when they crow, they go.

While we were away Mr Rooster improved his crow. He’s a little bit of a show off crowing in the morning and evening.

He’s a handsome fellow, centralilrookie. Shared pics always give me chicken envy, but I know I can’t go there.

After feeding and watering the chickens this morning I was totally surprised to find our first egg in one of the nesting boxes. I thought the girls were another month from laying. Girls will be girls and do what they want on their own schedule…..😂😂😂

I thought the girls were another month from laying Many factors involved- variety of chicken, diet, time of year (daylength) and individual genetic makeup. When it's fall molt time or closer to winter, they sometimes wait until spring to lay their first.

Found our second egg today. With a little over $200 in this adventure I’m feeling that there better be a lot of self satisfaction to be had because money savings sure aren’t in sight!
