The five that came from Swan Island will be in the flower garden by the barn. The two Cafe au lait that I purchased at the farm store will be on the deck...that is the plan, anyway. I think the ones from Swan Island will need support. There is an antique shop that shares their "finds" on their Facebook page and she posted a pic of a black iron fence that would have been just perfect in the flower garden as a support for the dahlias. But, somebody beat me to it. I gotta get over there...she has old planting urns...watering cans. I have an old watering can, but I might like another

One out of 8 tubers didn't develop so on Wednesday a.m. I contacted Swan Island Dahlias...they had a replacement in the mail by that night. I looked up the tracking number for it just now....It said it is in the area and out for delivery today so it should be coming sometime this afternoon. Ahhh, it has arrived and has been planted.

Updated pic of the tubers I potted up and then forgot to bring them in and they were murdered by 15 degree wind chill and 38mph winds., but now sprouting more than the first sprouting: I am leaving NOTES on the table NOW, so I don't forget again.................ughhhhhhhh

Is that one tuber per pot or all of what grew last year from seed? They don't look a bit unhappy. It might have been a good thing...kinda like pinching.

I was thinking the SAME thing. 5 tuber clumps in the larger pot. 3 tuber clumps in the smaller pot. And I have one SMALL pot of 1 single clump of tubers, that I NEVER let rest and have been growing it under lights and now out and in. That thing is WEAK, and it was my favorite color.................Time will Tell.

Have some tubers coming from Swan Island next month. Just put them in the pot last weekend. Do you have blooms yet, lilolpeapicker? The folks on the FB Dahlia page keep posting pics of their blooms. I'm getting anxious. One of my "farm store' tubers is blooming but the Swan Islands are not.

binnylou, I had to cut mine back because they were spindly. But I am starting to get buds, so I am hoping real soon!! And I did plant 2 in the ground (had three but somehow I lost one between my backdoor and the flower bed... O_o This was about 4 weeks ago and they are coming through but still small. And those are the tubers as well. next year I am going to work on doing seeds.

For the $$$ I have invested in tubers, I'm expecting a riot of bloom. Maybe I should stick with Zinnias

For the $$$ I have invested in tubers, I'm expecting a riot of bloom They are coming soon! Most sites say Mid July for Bloom............. I potted up my seed started ones, that are now tubers, this year, way back in Feb..........so I've had plenty of blooms and cut them back on this one or another.............and a NEW flush will Be here again.............along with ones I haven't cut back..........just pruned. I've have decided to NOT REALLY LIKE dahlias...............Too dang much work deadheading them things............. Wave petunias are a set it and forget it plant.................Bless their dear hearts! I love your urn binnylou ! That urn matches the back drop perfectly!

I love your urn binnylou ! That urn matches the back drop perfectly! Thank you...I hope nobody steals it thinking it is real copper. I really like the look...so much so that I have more of the paint in reserve, just waiting for the perfect item to get decorated! How about clay pots sprayed a dark red then dusted with the copper? Wave petunias are a set it and forget it plant I find that the Waves need a lot of dead heading...at least the F2 do. Maybe that is one of the things that change with the next generation. The Waves on the deck are really trying to set seed and I snip them off every morning. I'm lookin' for color!

I find that the Waves need a lot of dead heading...at least the F2 do I've never had a problem with the f2's either..........I haven't pinched my urns at all( f1's)............ never had an issue with even f3's, but: I did pinch back the orange ones........well they are NOT waves.........but I really haven't messed with them much either. Hmmmmm........ Is it out front........where people can see it? I'd have to run them down and horse whip them if they steal it! Why must everything be under lock and key these days..............Heck...............if ya want a pot...........I'm more than happy to share.............just ask..............ya know!?

I'd have to run them down and horse whip them if they steal it! I'd have to let them have it as long as they leave the begonias. The urns are those "extruded foam" things purchased in 2001 for cheap at Hobby Lobby. They have been getting more dingy looking each year, so I painted them three years ago I think. And yes, they are in front of the house, one on each side of the two garage doors. I have a big round planter filled with begonias and hosta that I want to put between the garage doors, but hubby has an "issue" about that. He just needs an attitude adjustment.

ehhh, I don't see an urn?? Where is it? I went back through the entire thread...what am I missing?? binnylou and lisaann , when you planted the seeds, how many seeds did you plant in each pot and did you thin them out? How many times did you pinch back? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!! (this is for the holiday!)
