I bought a growing dahlia. It’s been on the deck for a couple weeks and in spite of the weather it’s growing and even had new blooms. I’ll save the tuber.

binnylou, I'm sure it is, but I'm pretty sure I tossed the plant marker! Got the itch to clean the garage the other day.......

Sixteen dahlias planted in the ground/raised bed. About ten more to go.
I have visions of beautiful blooms. Hope I’m not disappointed.

binnylou , they're beautiful, so delicate and graceful. I especially like the colors, from a soft pink to a soft creamy ivory.

This dahlia is Oreti Adele, purchased from a grower in Michigan. I really like how it looks like it has back lighting. P1000374 by BLou, on Flickr

binnylou, Been reading about storing dahlia tubers. It says 40-60˚. Canna says 45-60˚. I always store canna in basement where it is between 67-70˚ and they are fine. Will this work for dahlia do you think? Haven't taken them from the pot yet, but expect to in the next couple weeks. I still see new blooms!

Close to 40 degrees would be better. Do you have a north wall where your tuber could spend the winter? If it gets too warm, it will start sprouting and get leggy. I store mine in our unheated attached garage. Usually, when we have a really cold night, I drag them downstairs to the unheated spare bedroom. I have about 25 plants to dig, but they are still loaded with buds. No frost predicted for a weeks, so I may get to enjoy them. Then I'll be digging and freezing my butt out there in the cold.

Nope. Garage is not attached and not insulated. I’ll just keep in the basement and see what happens. I only have one to deal with.
