I believe that dogs need to work, like men, and so far I never had a job suitable for a dog. I might, some day. How about a dog retiree?

Good point Octave. Personally, I think dogs need a function/task to keep them focused.

We have three cats. They can come in the garage, but not the house. Sorry, I will not allow a cat in the house. They may roam free at will outdoors. Yes they did go to the vet for shots. I think that is important. If you get them their shots, the biggest threat to a free roaming cat seems to be getting run over by a car. I see a few splattered on the roads. Thankfully I am a mile from a high speed roadway.
We feed them a dry bagged catfood, but they hunt and forage too. They bring us a lil trophy now and then. Don't see any fleas.

I believe that dogs need to work, They can be taught to bring in the newspaper or your slippers and carry a not too heavy bag of unbreakable groceries or pharmacy items.

If I may risk the wrath, the more I try to understand people, the more I love my dog. My goal is to be the person my dog believes I am.

james, we covered this in another thread - alas, it was unrelated to the title of the thread - which so often happens...
it went something like this: when one posts and it is the VERY FIRST post of a NEW PAGE for SOME REASON it doesn't show up until someone else posts! it's that strange?! so , sometimes I just post: "bump" or "test" to make it go, and then delete that after someone posts after me I know, it's silly....

OregonRed I believe that problem has been corrected. It was happening in the weather and craft threads.

They have to be indoor round here otherwise definitely coyote bait. Even with dogs you have to be careful especially at night, a few years ago a neighbours Alsatian was mauled by a mountain lion

My neighborhood, which was the model for cookie cutter housing tracts, has a challenge with coyotes preying on cats and small dogs.

Cats: These are outdoor critters in my world. I would not have a cat in the house on a bet! Yes, do take them to the vet for shots. Give them a bed in the garage or shed and they will do fine. Let them roam to catch critters. That is what cats do. Have fun!
