My mom started this from a cutting from her cactus. This must be at 15 years old. Every year it loses a few stems, but it's still blooming. It reminds me of Mom.

Pretty! I have one blooming not yet opened. Last year for the first time I was successful with this plant and my cat kept breaking off a flower one at a time just climbing and walking around it....that little rascal! So hopefully it is in a safer place this year.

That' so great that you have one from your mom. I had one for years, but currently do not. At the time I didn't realize there were Thanksgiving as well as Christmas cactus. I always thought they were just Christmas Cactus. I was always so surprised and thought mine was "special" because it bloomed sooner than at Christmas.

Mine usually blooms around Halloween, once it's been indoors again for a few weeks.

I am sorry....I have looked at pictures of both and they look the same to me. But I guess if the flowers come out @ Thanksgiving, it will be a Thanksgiving cactus but if they bloom @ Christmas it will be a Christmas cactus....so if the flowers last all month...what will it be?

I thought there was even an Easter cactus. I need to get another one of these. I have managed to kill them before.

Clip off a finger and dust the break with rooting hormone. It will root if stuck into soil and watered from time to time.

One of my big pots of Christmas cactus I have planted with numerous different varieties... It's neat when it blooms all different colors...
No buds on it yet though...I don't know what's going on there... B-|

Here is mine finally blooming... This started out about 4 years ago when I was invited to someone's house for dinner and I didn't want to walk in empty-handed. So I bought this for her. One joint broke off so I put it in water to root. It has taken since then to get this.

My grandma was great with Christmas cactus and violets. I can do violets, just don't have a window to dedicate to them year round. Yours is very nice, pea!
