reuben , I keep a container of red cider vinegar and garlic "wine" on hand at all times, for to splash on things, or just to sip on. I've thought about adding addendums like red pepper or peppercorns or clove to it. It does do better with a little ageing. Sounds good.

Started out vacuum, mopped, cleaned the bathrooms while #1 wife was at exercise (got me some points on that one!). Then I started on a stool that my oldest granddaughter (14) wants for her makeup table... got to the point where I needed my hole saws and couldn't find them. I organized my shop stuff (again) some months ago and had them put away in a nice safe place. Finally found them after my stool making morphed into shop cleanup. By then I was too worn out to continue on stool making (at least that's my story)...
Tomorrow, the Lord will rest but Alan won't. The dern grass just will not stop growing. Tomorrow is weedeating day. I'm going to burn some gas and weedeater twine tomorrow, right after I accompany #1 wife to the grocery store since the McDaniel Truck Farm has pretty much dried up. We have four pitiful little tomatoes left. If there are some decent looking sets I may get some to plant in the shade.
Amazing how fast things dry up when they aren't getting water from Heaven every day. The dust has already started to appear. We watered house plants for an hour this evening.
Anyway, overall, life is good...
Alan

Yesterday we were catching up on sniping a few green beans when sweethearts dad called and said that his buddies sweet corn was ready to pick. So he and I went and picked a 32 gal garbage can full and got it back to our house just in time to go to lunch with another one of his friends. I really get a kick out of listening to those old boys and their stories. After lunch sweetheart, the grandkids and I shucked the corn and sweetheart got two pots boiling on the stove. I cut all the corn off the cob with the mandolin. I felt pretty lucky that only nicked myself a couple of times! 😂 We ended up with 27 bags for the freezer about a pint and a half in each bag. Dropped the 3 gkids from Texas and 1 more off at sweethearts oldest sons house as we had supper plans with a family friend from California. Baths and ice cream and the four kids and sweetheart were all asleep when I looked in on them. It was a good day......

My tomatillos started getting full sized today. A lot more tomatoes, too, and a couple more cukes and bitter melons. Most of the harvest for 7-24. Tomatillos just starting to get full sized! by pepperhead212, on Flickr I cleaned up a lot of my dead tomato leaves and branches, and pulled out my totally browned dill plants - I only save a small portion of the seeds, as there's only a few I have to grow, and the seeds I grow aren't as good as the seeds I buy - probably different varieties better for the seed spice.

It drizzled -off and on- all day today, so spent the day indoors and took the opportunity to get to a task we have been putting off... setting our affairs in order. We made new wills and started other paperwork so that our heirs can avoid Probate Court. And because of all this, we got to talk with all three of our inheritors via Facetime. That was an extra treat- 3 individual visits in one day.
It was so cold I had to put on socks and a lite jacket, in the house no less. Not at all happy about that, though very happy for the moisture.

setting our affairs in order. Something we need to do as well, especially concerning who will become guardian for our daughter. I also urge anyone who foresees problems with their estate to appoint a neutral party as administrator and at least two alternates. The estate I was, unbeknownst to me, named a beneficiary dragged on for almost five years because of the two named administrators, one had passed away a month prior to the deceased and the other passed away six months later and was too ill to do anything concerning the estate. The other beneficiary was appointed as administrator and I did not object as she was a blood relative of the deceased and I was not and I trusted her to do the job. After a request to me for money to pay utilities, numerous questions concerning the refusal to list the property for sale and to produce records for income received and disbursed, my phone calls and messages went unanswered and I had no choice but to petition for her removal and have a neutral party appointed. Turned out the only claim against the estate was either written off or paid by an insurance policy of some kind within a year of the death. So no claim existed and all money in the estate had been spent on "renovations." While the other beneficiary and I have buried the hatchet and agreed to proceed without animosity, unfortunately that agreement appears to be one-sided and I will be cutting my ties after the closing of the property. I can only guess that there is some deep-rooted animosity towards me and there's no place for that in my life.

Yesterday was mom's birthday and we had a small celebration at their house with my aunt, my uncle and his wife. I think of all the gifts mom was most pleased with the fact that this was the first year since she was a teenager that her big brother was there for her birthday. We enjoyed the food and festivities and thought kiddo would be straight to bed when we got home but she had other plans. It was after midnight when I turned the light off for the fifth time and laid down with her until she went to sleep. Ugh! I see we need to work on the bedtime routine before school starts in a few weeks.

My brothers estate was large for a working man. He has 2 children and their life choices have made payback indebtedness primary. When informed that there wouldn’t be much left, #2 child thought she was being cheated and hired a big name lawyer who will walk away with more than she will. Live and learn. Harsh life lesson.

I picked tomatoes this evening….I brought in 3 Carbon tomatoes, but not quite ready. Two days on the counter and I should be cooking up some crispy bacon. One Carbon was just a smidge over a pound…one was a smidge under…the third was a half pound. I would rather let them vine ripen, but there is some bird pressure out there and I didn’t want these tomatoes damaged. Also brought in a bunch of Juliets, two fully red and ripe Marconi peppers, the last of the turnips, and enough Fortex green beans for a mess of beans and new Taters. I’ll need to pick more beans tomorrow.

We took a field trip to the wildlife center today. Just hubby. daughter and I walking a 1.25 mile trail that thankfully was mostly shaded. There's another trail off of the one we walked that states it takes 1 1/2 hours to walk and I think we'll be exploring it next time when hopefully not as hot and humid. Kiddo enjoyed the animals and the bald eagle seemed to converse with her. We also got to see a fisher lying on his back in the crotch of a tree without a care in the world. Actually my uncle was just speaking of a fisher the other day and I honestly thought it was something he made up so we learned something new today.

Speaking of slicing tomatoes and crispy bacon, BLTs come to mind. BLTs at our house call for Hellman’s mayonnaise.
Now I usually buy multiple jars of Hellman’s when the price is right. That would be about $3.50 for the 30 oz jar. The price hasn’t been “right” for a while. Everyday shelf price was $4.98. I didn’t buy at that price, figuring it would be in the next ad. Well, the price still isn’t “right” and last week when we shopped, the shelf price was $5.98.
Yup, I bought one…just one. It’s tater salad time and BLTs aren’t far behind. $5.98…I can’t believe I paid that price.🤭

binnylou I buy Mayo at Aldi for $1.89. It’s the best off brand I’ve found.

Mumsey...I’ve seen that knock off brand and wanted to try it. My husband eats most of the sandwiches here and he’s a Hellman’s snob. They have changed their recipe slightly using a different supplier of oil. I called them when the unopened jar of mayo actually separated 🤔. They sent me a coupon for a new jar. It does not have the same shelf life which I told them. The prices are ridiculous. We now buy on sale too. I use a lot during potato salad months.

In our house I am the one who prefers mayo on sandwiches while hubby prefers Miracle Whip. I do admit to using Miracle Whip in deviled eggs, tuna salad and cole slaw simply because I think it has more flavor. As for price, I was raised to stock up when the price is cheap. In her later years when I'd take grandma shopping, I'd always point out when the Miracle Whip was on sale and 9 times out of 10 she wouldn't buy a jar. Then 2-3 weeks later she'd buy a jar at full price.

Roomba (wannabe) arrived. He does a pretty good job of vacuuming. I was pleased that it’s not too tall to fit under the lower cupboard overhang. We’re still learning, so we haven’t allowed him to clean during the night time hours. Hubby is lusting for a drone of some sort. Roomba has a remote control…this might be his newest toy.
