After our morning walk, I got busy on the garlic. Cut the dried ends off and sorted them according to size, ones to save for planting and the rest for using. Then pulled all the onions and laid them out in the garage to dry. Planted 12 broccoli seedlings in the vacated onion space. Trimmed up the kale, picked beans, eggplant and chard. The pole beans are starting to produce. Potato bed will be the next empty bed. Part of that will get lettuce and Fall radishes. Watered all pots and cleaned birdbaths. Organized freezer, last year's remains on top which isn't much.

For having nothing planned today, I've been busy. Found 5 more asparagus seedlings, moved them. Found 7 oak tree seedlings, dug those up and potted them for brother. Never tried it before, we'll see how it works out. Checked out the cabbage, it's getting huge. Wove some squash vines up into the fence, cleaned up some of the fence line, I don't get back there often, quite a mess it was. Nothing else to do out there, so I plan to sort through fabric stash....again. I have a pattern that uses scraps, I'll see what I can find. With the price of fabric, I'll be scrounging! I am saving all $$ from produce sales for fabric. . The pot is growing. (No, not THAT pot! )

Today, I got the 4 wheeler running, rebuilt the carburetors on my boat motor, put the shredder on the tractor, leveled the mower deck on the mower, straightened up the shop from all the mechanicing the last two days, put all the necessary things in the boat to be ready to go to the lake in the morning. I'm going to take fishing gear but it's mainly a motor testing trip to make sure it's not going to leave me paddling in some back bay. I did manage to mow some in the back yard this afternoon.
The rain stopped for the moment and the grass is growing.

Going on a road trip Sunday-Tuesday. Going with sis and her grand daughter to the Mississippi River Museum/Aquarium in Dubuque, never been there, might mosey on down to Galena, IL, time permitting. Then going fabric shopping the next day and visiting my favorite greenhouse, Culver's in Marion. Sis has a sewing machine she bought at a garage sale for $5, cabinet and all. Sews well she says. Will check it out, she bought it because it's all metal parts, unlike new ones. I'm seriously considering a new one, have been for quite some time. No hurry, heck it took me 6 months to buy a new car once!

she bought it because it's all metal parts, unlike new ones I had a great Brother machine. All the bells and whistles. Someone broke it while shoving things around in the basement. Big hunk of plastic cracked off and I couldn't even find it to glue it back. Need a new machine now, but not going to pay for so many features if it can break like that.

Rabbits have had their fill of my garden produce. I have had to restart many things to extend the season here. I have planted broccoli outside, and inside have started cauliflower, cabbage and lettuce. I may start them outside as well. The broccoli is coming through Today I am going to put in brussels sprouts and cauliflower. Peas need to b replanted as well. Rabbits have always eaten the young tender shoots but rarely ate the older plants. This year it did not seem to matter but I will have to cover everything.
I have never done so much fall planting as I am doing this year.

Rabbits have had their fill of my garden produce Have you tried using pepper spray. My homemade one worked against squirrels. I know they sell one called pepper wax. Don't have rabbits here.

I'm seriously considering a new one, have been for quite some time. Inspired me to go on line last night. Found a highly rated model that also has an extended base for quilting. Never tried quilting, but maybe after I do the pile of mending and alterations accumulating for the past few years. Mostly hems. Did a few by hand, but put the rest aside. Machine comes tomorrow.

Have you tried using pepper spray. I may have some but also has been raining day in and day out.....though they say we will have a stretch of good weather over next 5 days after this. But like I said they really haven't been much trouble once the plants got older so I was not prepared for their voracious appetite. I guess I will need to be from now on.

gardendmpls What kind of machine did you end up getting? I’m leaning toward Pfaff or Jenome. I’d love the extension you mentioned.

I spent the day pretty much either in slow motion or lying around like a slug waiting for the a/c repairman to show up.

Today was out shopping for groceries after dropping off daughter at work. Came home and put everything away, relaxed and made a few calls about fixing the front steps. Last week I got a bid of $5800 which was way too much, so I posted in the neighborhood groups and got a lot of referrals. Went to pick up daughter in the afternoon. Bank, car wash, Lowes for bricks and odds and ends. They had a beautiful yellow peony for half price, but it was half of $60, so no deal. Some coleus for half price, but my friend just gave me four. Can't beat free.
We loaded the bricks into the car and headed for the exit, as a thunderstorm was looming overhead. Reached in my pocket to get my phone for the address of the next stop and wallet was gone. Made a U-turn. Not where it might fall out of my pocket next to the seat, not in the parking space we just left, not in the back of the car with the bricks, not in the store. Came out to pouring rain, a real gully-washer (see car wash on itinerary above). Went to switch with my daughter so she could drive. Decided to check the middle seat. On the floor under the front seat but not anywhere it could fall was Ms. Wallet. Must have been wandering around back there.
Drove to the next stop. A neighbor around the corner was selling a very good two piece desk with a hutch with drawers and doors and those sorting slots for mail and papers. Solid wood, not particle board. Because the desk top was scratched and they were moving, $129. Told them to keep it a couple of weeks until closer to the move, for which the husband, working on two computers and a phone when we got there, seemed grateful. We were soaked going into the house, but it was sunny coming out.
Home just as my garden helper walked up. Set him to unloading the bricks from the car. Then we worked on putting in the new screen door on the chicken pen. Wasn't quite wide enough, but we managed. No feathered escapees while switching off the doors. Was a satisfying day, despite me still having a cold. Good reason for skipping my appointment and taking a break tomorrow

Came inside at almost dark. I worked outside for a while this afternoon, but temps were just too hot.
Found those marble sized honeydews have grown to tennis ball size. Everybody in the veggie garden got a drink. I found some newly formed baby tomatoes, so the tomato crop might be extended. Celery looks better now that it’s not getting a daily haircut. JB are still around…I thought the best hunting time was late afternoon, but I found quite a few, even in the dim light. No soapy water this time. I had my garden gloves on, so it was Rice Krispie time. Snap..crackle…pop. 🤭
Feels like August is here already…light is soft because of wildfire smoke passing through. Can’t smell it, but yesterday my eyes were feeling like allergy season was here.
Big beautiful moon out there tonight…not yet full, I think, but didn’t check the calendar. Are you a moon person? My niece is…every full moon, one messages the other to “look up”.
