Other than picking 2 1/2 pounds of peas to shell, I took it easy for the most part of yesterday. Somehow ended up with another pulled muscle and realized that I'd been neglecting the strengthening exercises from therapy in the chaos of the last month or so, so back to it! Worked on the prototype of the commissioned pieces some and the lady really likes what I'm doing so far. I've done very little commission work but the one problem I constantly see with friends who do is the project not turning out as the recipient envisioned or there's an issue with pricing. I'm doing my best to avoid both issues and abide by the customer's request that I not share any photos or videos of the projects until November as we are in some of the same groups and they'll be unveiled as part of her display in October. Also been doing a bit of repair work as my pub mirror fell from the wall last week when one of the hangers pulled loose. I really can't fathom why it would fall as there was only one backpack loaded with my hiking/exploration supplies, a bag for each of the two organizations I'm active in, a jacket for each of us, my hat, car keys and miscellaneous other things that can be easily deposited on a hook. Actually one of the hooks broke a few months ago so I replaced them all since I couldn't find any that matched and I figured the others would follow suit. Looks almost like new except it does need a bit of refinishing, but that can wait for another year or two. Also working on an airbrush I picked up at the thrift store before COVID. Have if functioning but ordering new seals just in case. I've airbrushed very little but I don't like using aerosol cans and trying to get into all the cracks and crevices of the pieces I'm working on with a brush will be a nightmare. Thankfully there's several good tutorial videos out there.

Headed out to Dad's at 6:30 to pull rhubarb. I was in shock, he was up and outside! We pulled 40 lbs, this time for a customer coming to pick up, so no delivery hassles. Glad I went early, cloudy with a nice cool breeze. The rhubarb is looking tired and dry but we had enough for the order. All the rain missed us, though I heard thunder off and on from 4-6 am. After the work was done I tossed in a lure a few times. Too windy for the boat and it was beginning to warm up. The thing about being in the boat is you are like a frog in a frying pan. You are caught up in the moment if fishing is good and it gets hot and you don't realize it.
It was near 86˚ when I got home, now it's 99˚. Staying in the rest of the day.

I spent the morning watering young trees and some things in the flower bed. I still had some dahlia tubers in the winter storage bags. The tubers are shriveled and questionable, but they are sprouted. So, I planted them in gallon pots. If they show growth, I’ll sink the pot in the flower garden.
I love a challenge.
Rose cuttings are still waiting to be potted to a bigger pot. Hubby moved my trailer babies to the west yard. That gives me dense shade to work in and a garden hose is close by. Remaining tomato plants went to the compost pile.
When watering the Quaking Aspen, I was bent over making sure the water went down in to the cracks in the soil. I heard leaves rustling…noisy they were…but I’d been reading that the leaves of Quaking Aspen trees are noisy. The noise was actually a recently fledged robin in the tree. I talked to him…he didn’t seem to be afraid. Then he flew to the side of the house, couldn’t hang on and fell to the ground. I think he found his way in to the gutter downspout extension. Mom was sitting on it, guarding.
If we don’t get rain tonight, I need to put a lot more water on that tree tomorrow.

Had an open space, so I went out and planted four more hills of straightneck summer squash. Because, squash, of course. Thinking about doing some crookneck again next season. Straightneck has better yield, but crookneck has better flavor. With all my late plantings this year, I might have a tasty late summer and fall. Just darn thankful that I can do it.

Watered the entire garden yesterday morning at 5 am before walk. Mowed back yard, weeds sure don't mind drought! Picked peas and lettuce. Vacuumed the house, did laundry, went to see old neighbor at the assisted living. I was able to find enough flowers for a little bouquet for her and I took along some watermelon. We went out to the court yard and ate that. Productive day.

With all my late plantings this year, I might have a tasty late summer and fall. More than that, should save a lot. Seems that because of the fuel increases, shortages of truck drivers due to new onerous rules, prices rising on imported ingredients due to the decrease in the value of the dollar, and labor shortages due to (insert whatever you want to believe here) food prices should be going way up soon.

Yesterday started out with sweetheart going to work and I went for breakfast at the local coffee shop with our neighbor. Then back to the house to remove the stove in preparation for installing the new flooring. Sweethearts oldest son and I finished up with the floor about 3 o’clock we then installed our new microwave. She’s lived here 18yrs and always had the microwave on the counter it’s now mounted in the intended space above the stove. She’s a little protective of her new flooring so we will be with out a stove and fridge , in the kitchen, for a week till the new are delivered. Cleaned up the mess from cutting in the garage when sweetheart got home with sandwiches from Jimmy John’s. Showered and early to bed as she is working today and I was pooped. It was a good day

DS visited yesterday for Father's Day. Grilled salmon for us and steak for DH. A regular feast with potato salad, garden salad, sautéed broccoli/peas/onions, green bean casserole. Sent leftovers home with him along with fresh veggies, he's a fresh food kind of guy.
After he left, we sat around on the deck enjoying the slightly cooler temps and breeze.

Well I knew one daughter would be coming for dinner but the other was dependent upon infants sleep schedule...we were blessed by a Saturday visit from the youngest for the whole day...hubby made ribs on the grill, corn on the cob and pasta salad. It was SUCH a nice day. I love having them visit w grand babies. We fed the chickens the cobs and they swung on the swing in the shade of the sugar maple...all feels well w the world.

With sweetheart off to work at 4:30am and my girls and their families going to spend the day at a lake I had the day to myself. A few domestic chores and a little relaxation on the couch. Supper was a local pub pizza and a couple adult beverages.

My day has been cut short by rain, but I did accomplish a bit. Finally got the rain barrel set up outside of the garden fence and once I emptied the kiddo's pool, it was full. Took a bit as I've only been filling the buckets half-full to keep from aggravating my back. Used the push mower to finish the front yard and managed to get about half of the backyard mowed before the rain started. Picked the last of the sugar snap peas and plan to cut them off and plant beans in their place. The Toscano strawberry I bought a while back has started blooming and I'm delighted to see it seems to be the same variety I grew at my grandma's when I stayed with her. Looking forward to the tasty berries. Speaking of grandma, Saturday marked five years since she passed. Doesn't seem like it's been that long.

boots, is your patch made using denim? What kind of paint/ink did you use? I'm hoping to experiment with some of my daughter's clothing this winter and make it unique.

Inspected the garden, and everything passed the inspection...Weeded the few weeds out (thanks, mulch!)...soaked up sun and a brisk breezy breeze. The Full-Color Old-Bones Weather Forecast bodily app senses the approaching front from the northwest. Remedy is called for.
