Been lounging about under a ceiling fan most of the day. It is way too hot to be working in the garden, or anywhere else. I'm really good at the hot weather lifestyle. The secret is to be comfortable with doing nothing: lying about with a cold drink, in the shade and with a breeze (fan). ⛱🏝

I didn't do much in the garden today, as there wasn't really much to do out there. I did plant my last 4 basil clones, in one of the raised beds, and did some weeding, but that's all.

Went for usual early a.m. walk, came home and watered everything again. Seems about every 4-5 days is the schedule for that until we get rain. In years past I never had to water anything except potted plants. Will be picking pea pods today and Little Gem lettuce. Picked a few broccoli shoots. The main heads were a huge disappointment, smallish. I've had that problem with Waltham broccoli before. Note to self, get a different variety. Hoping to continue to get enough side shoots for freezing.
Went to the big city. Stopped at sporting goods store for bass bait. Of course like everything else, you can never find the same thing the next time around. Looked around in the store a bit, need new slippers. Oulikai are what I'm after but they don't have their fall/winter stock in yet. Those last forever, 5 years on the current ones with plenty of wear left for now.
Fixed brunch when we got home, that was our main meal yesterday. Eggs, hash browns, toast. Put fresh onion, scapes, dill and fennel on the potatoes.

Went to Kentucky on Saturday for a funeral. Husbands younger brother passed away after having another heart attack. So sad. Only 62 years old. Got to see all the nieces and nephews growing up and having kids of their own.
Got home today and of course the first thing I did was check the garden. Everything is good and getting big. May pull the Tomatillos. They are a bug magnet this year. Found lots of egg clusters on the undersides of the leaves. A few cucumbers are thriving. Something keeps eating them down to the stem. I have replanted 3 times now. Have to go back to work tomorrow.

Yesterday was busy. 3.3 mile walk at 0540. Nice cool morning. Worked in yard/garden for a couple hours. Cut some dead wood out of burning bushes. Picked peas and baby maple trees. Those things just won't give up! Noticed blossoms on my short row of Provider bush beans. datgirl, the other day I noticed the tops of cukes gone except one. I made a chicken wire tent to cover it and the next day the remaining plant was untouched. I'm thinking rabbit. So plopped a few more seeds in. Then decided to finally clean the grill. Ugh. Been putting that off. Took 2 1/2 hours. Then DH needed another section of his deck project stained. He does the building, I do the staining. Time flies, 4 pm when I called it quits. Went to the junk shop, I gave a gal who works there some garlic last Fall with instructions how to plant. She did it all right, except she removed the mulch this Spring. I did some gentle education on the importance of leaving it put. By her description it's not as tall as it should be. I asked about scapes, she wasn't sure. So I went home and got some for her. Her first time ever with garlic. She calls me the Garlic Queen. I've been called worse!

After tilling all the garden Sunday morning and laying flooring in the afternoon yesterday was a much needed slower day. The problem with that was that I needed to attend a funeral for a cousin of mine. I guess it was a good chance to take it easy for the day. I did take a stroll thru the garden and I’m tickled to see pumpkins, squash, cucumbers and pole beans coming up.

Electric went off around 9 last evening so enjoyed the peace and quiet sleeping by the open window. Thankfully there was still enough hot water this morning for kiddo and I to get a bath before heading off for her dental appointment 2 hours away. Stopped at a large greenhouse on the way back and could have wandered in there the rest of the day if it wasn't for mom and kiddo being in the car. Ended up with some chocolate mint, sweet woodruff, impatiens and a house plant besides some hot pepper plants for mom. They still have social distancing and one-way aisles in effect and honestly I can see that increasing sales as the complete stroll through all the greenhouses would spur lots of impulse purchases. Hubby said electric came back on around 2pm so we can at least sleep with the fan on tonight.

Sorry to hear about your BIL, datgirl. May he R.I.P. I mowed my back Tuesday, and I'll do the front and side early Wednesday, when that's in the shade briefly. After that, I have to go over to a friend's house - the ones I gave a bunch of extra seedlings to. Not sure what they need me for! lol

Just finished burying our elderly cat Gizmo, who was 23 years young & spent 13 of those years with us, but had let us know in no uncertain terms that it was his "time". So we spent most of the day with him prior to the miserable vet visit, & for dinner last night & lunch today he had his most favorite food in the world - boiled lobster.
(Geesh - we've barely gotten over the passing of our elderly dog last month.)
