Hope you are feeling better. We used to call them twenty four hour viruses and I had plenty of them growing up, which means less of them now. This particular one is pretty nasty as it's been going around for about a month now. My daughter woke up with it on Saturday and has diarrhea so bad today I had to wash her underwear by hand as I knew it would dry outside quicker than running it through the laundry. She's drinking plenty and since she usually leans toward being constipated, she doesn't quite understand why there's pee coming out of her butt. Hubby is still pretty rough but I seem to be completely over it besides being worn out. Unfortunately with a young child I'm certain we'll have many more bouts in the years to come.

Humid at 6 this morning. The Princess didn’t seem as energetic on our walk so cut it to 2.5 miles. She’s getting older, will be 8 in September. So I’m mindful of how she tolerates the weather. Scrubbed part of the driveway. Dirt from all the plants I parked there for plant sales. Then hosed off siding on backyard side of house and garage. Looked up and decided to clean the eave troughs. Dirty! So got the ladder out. I was a wet mess but kept cool! Toured the garden. Not much weeding to do at all except the onion patch. Noticed scapes on the garlic. So binnylou it’s not far behind yours. I’ll start cutting them tomorrow. Right after I get home from rhubarb pulling at dad’s, hair appt and shopping.

The family was away, so I inspected and weeded the garden, then cut more fresh spearmint for to dry. I accidentally on purpose dropped a few cuttings on the kitchen floor and rolled over them several times before picking them up. When the Fam got home, they said, "oooh, what smells so good?" I smiled.

I have a patch of spearmint, that has choked out nearly every weed and other plants I have tried growing there. It's surrounded by concrete - the reason I grow it there. I am always cutting large batches of it for friends - one of many herbs I love running my hands through, while gardening, to smell that wonderful aroma!
I re-sharpened my stirrup hoe today, and when it got cooler and breezy, but before it rained, I took that and sliced off the tops of many of those weeds that started growing bigtime, since that 3+ inches of rain I got here, plus, some must love heat, like my peppers! One thing I noticed, that pops up every year as a weed, is tomatillos! Actually, it was more than one - at least 28, though I probably missed some! For a number of years I used to grow them from the weeds, and not start from seed, but slowly, the fruits got smaller, so I went back to seeds again.

It was a puttering day- a little of this, a little of that. Deadheaded flowers, cut out some dead stems in the silver lace vine and retrained the green vines on the wire support, pulled some stray weeds- just a few, hand watered the veggie garden (still have to get the drip irrigation set up there. Hopefully tomorrow). Still have some serious cleanup to do from the heavy rain we got last week. But that's low on the list right now.

Yesterday was hot and humid. I managed to get the tomatoes staked, a few weeds pulled and some more tomatoes planted in pots before my daughter woke up. By then I was drenched in sweat. Hubby wanted the rest of the day to work on riding mower and to be honest I didn't have much faith in him, but alas, it runs and mows! Thankfully the vendor didn't want the broken carburetor returned as hubby ended up robbing the gaskets and another piece off of it to fix ours. Now it's time to buy tires, ugh! I refused to buy them unless he got the mower running so now I must keep my word. Besides stopping every half hour to air up tires gets old after a while.
My daughter is doing much better today and hopefully the stomach bug is history. Hubby rescheduled his appointment for today so we're just enjoying the rain showers.

When I first was reading about your pasta incident, martywny , the Italian part of me was saying, "Why is he breaking his spaghetti?"...ha ha ha... Hiya Mumsey ...It was back here about the spaghetti... Oddly enough, when I was at the store the other day, I was looking at pasta and saw that now sold is boxed, broken spaghetti...in smallish pieces... I just could not believe that...Plus it cost more than the regular spaghetti...

emmsmommy , The broken in half stuff is the same price! And I imagine those boxes of little pieces are ones that broke during processing. Gotta pay somebody to rake them up I guess.

Oh Brother it's hot today, humidity creeping up on us. Walked 2 miles. Went to town early, picked up dog food etc at Menards. Needed some more dog poo bags, NOPE! They don't have the less expensive ones I used to buy, now they are cutesy with designs on them. 90 bags for nearly $9! Nope again! Found some at Walmart for a lot less, and they still shouldn't cost that much. Food storage bags would be way less costly. I may go that route next time. Yes, I'm a penny pincher from the git go, but not nearly like Dad. I'm just a small nut that fell from the family tree and landed a little farther away from the tree than most!
Got overdue hair cut. Went to fabric store, have a project to make for friend's church. Stopped at Aldi and Home Depot. Just kinda lolligagged around since it's too hot to work outside once I got home. DH stayed home, so I got away with going wherever I darn well pleased.
Finally went out to the garden, those garlic scapes all grew out in just a couple days. Cut them all and sent most of them to compost. I find I don't use them much so no use in keeping them. Heading out to water pots as soon as the backyard is shady. Tomorrow it's early morning watering the whole garden, with the higher humidity there is moisture on plants in the morning which is good, then a power wash project on a raised bed that has retaining blocks around it.

Yesterday started out with getting sweetheart off to work at 4:20am. Then off to the local coffee shop for breakfast and listening to the local boys solve the problems of the world. With the daily domestic duties complete I picked up some strawberry plants from a lady in a nearby town. I temporarily put them in some potting soil in a large container and watered them as the dirt they were growing was as hard as concrete. I was filling up the horses water tanks when my oldest grandson showed up to help me move the flooring in the house to acclimate. We went to lunch then he was off to his afternoon lifeguarding job. Answered a knock on the front door from a neighbor to see two of the horses walking down the road. OH CRAP! Luckily we got them back to the barn pretty quickly. I had to tell sweetheart that I left the dang gate open. Finished the day mowing another pasture and then the yard. Even with the excitement two horses strolling down the road it was a good day.

I got up early, and enjoyed the nice weather - down in the low 70s, and no humidity! Did as much as I could (in the shady area!), before going to Aldi, then back home quickly. Later, when the shade is out back, I'll work back there - at least it won't be in the 90s, as it has been!

I got up early, and enjoyed the nice weather - down in the low 70s, and no humidity! Did as much as I could I'm now on the morning schedule, as well, for gardening. It's just too hot in the afternoons, which is when I tend to garden in the spring. Yesterday I deadheaded all the perennial beds in our private garden (which I think of as our outdoor living room) thinned out plumbago, shaped/pruned the lilacs and roses, as needed. Then made a last minute , unexpected (and very welcomed) trip to Albuquerque in the later afternoon. Hubby is having some heart issues that took us by surprise. After an overnight hospital stay, tests and labs, and two consultations (we strongly disliked the first cardiologist) we found one who talked to us as the intelligent adults we are, is open minded, non-judgmental, a straight shooter and willing to work with us (being the alternative healers we are) Hub is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine; the language and approach are very different but can be complimentary or in place of western medicine. Yesterdays' appointment was with one of hubby's teachers from when he was in school 20 years ago. It's hard to get in with him and they just happened to have a cancellation when hub called yesterday AM! This man was both a cardiologist and Chinese Medicine doc in China, before moving here so he brings the two worlds together. He was very encouraging that hub's 2 of the 3 issues can be addressed with Chinese Medicine; the third issue maybe. So we are moving forward with an alternative approach and will see the strictly western cardiologist in 3 months to assess where hub is at, from his point of view. Feeling good about the possibilities.

Here's that patch of spearmint that I have, which, as you can see, has choked out almost all of the weeds. On the bottom those ones with the larger leaves are peppermint - a few come up every year, which is good, as I can take a cutting for the hydroponics, come fall, since I can't grow the spearmint indoors. Not as good as spearmint, but it's something in the off-season. A little bit of mint, 6-10 by pepperhead212, on Flickr

Put peppers in. One spot I wanted to have them was occupied by a big overwintered and blooming parsley clump. I went out to dig it up, and saw all the beneficial wasps, bees, and ladybugs all over it. So I left it alone and put the peppers in another spot. pepperhead212, that "little bit of mint" looks fragrant. I cut a good bunch of spearmint the other day, made some tea, and set aside the rest to dry. Most mints seem to keep decent flavor after they dry.
