Got 9 masks made and in the mail to sis. Finally cleaned out the excess Christmas stuff and a toteful went for donation. Glad to see it gone! Been sewing yet another quilt together from the stash. This one will have polyfil batting as it is lighter weight and perfect for a couch quilt. Ones with Warm & Natural batting aren't warm, they are downright HOT! Especially with a dog keeping you warm too. They are great on the bed for warmth though, and weight if one likes heavy blankets.
Best get in gear, planning to fire up the grill in a bit. Burgers for DH, salmon for me. Along with basement garden salad.

After our range decided last night to alert us that it was dying, we went shopping this morning. Food shopping was as normal; range was a perfect example of both horrible & wonderful.
We went to Lowe's first, where masks-below-the-nose Moe, Larry, & Curly were manning the appliance department. While they had both models (cheap & less-cheap) that we were interested in, the less-cheap one we wanted looked considerably more cheaply-made in person. Curly had no answer for us about that. But regardless, when we asked Curly how long it would take to get it if we wanted it, he actually told us that we'd have to call General Electric ourselves to get that info. WTF??!!????? WE have to call the supplier to find out when we can get the damn appliance????? If that's the case, why don't we just order it directly from GE????
So, totally disgusted, we decided to take the time to drive over to the nearest Home Depot. There, we were greeted immediately by two properly masked, friendly, helpful people who immediately found out that the discrepancy in quality we'd seen in the range at Lowe's is that there are actually two different but nearly identical models of that same oven, with a $10 price difference. AND - they looked into delivery times from GE & were able to book us a tentative delivery date of 12/10!!! Now they did say that there could be delays, but that we'd be notified. Told us that if we don't hear otherwise, we'll get a phone call the night before with an actual time as to when they'll deliver it. Now THAT'S customer service.
So, if God-willing & the creeks don't rise, I'll have a new range for Xmas! (Otherwise, the traditional Xmas goose will have a delay or a miss this year).

Along with basement garden salad. I am still having yard salads. A doctor advised me to go on the Mediterranean diet but didn't say what it was. I looked into it and decided that the essence of the Mediterranean diet is the heavy use of culinary herbs -- basil, oregano, lemon balm, thyme, cilantro, chives, garlic chives, green onions, lettuce. That's what goes into my salads. A freeze got the basil, and I am letting the garlic chives go dormant. The others are still producing. Supper's salad also had diced tomato from the green tomatoes I harvested before the freeze.

breezygardener, I had a similar experience with the "I don't know when" response on anticipated delivery of a frig when I called ABC Warehouse, which in the past has provided good service. Not even being concerned about responding to a potential customer's delivery concerns doesn't show much interest in selling. Did you buy a GE stove? If so, a few words of caution: My GE stove chips very easily. Don't set anything other than a spoon rest on any area other than the burners, and do it gently. I'm sure there's only one coat of paint on the whole stove. The burner grates are barely coated, so put a pan on very delicately. Otherwise the paint chips off. Also clean after anything drips; the grates stain very easily. I have an old GE washer that I bought decades ago; it worked well, no problems ever. The newer GE range I have is a piece of junk.

Moved the pallets for containing the compost into position, not where I planned because my daughter thought the spot behind the garage (where the piles are now) should be part of the "chilling" area with the hammock, chairs, perhaps barbeque paraphernalia. Where I am putting the pile now is by the fence where it meets the back of my neighbors garage. I usually plant leftover tomatoes and peppers there and then neglect them, so not really a loss of space. Still need to screw the sides together with L brackets. Next, collected all the stakes, sorted by size and cable tied in groups of 6. Now in garage where they can dry out, but be handy in case the vampires get too numerous. Then brought in my egg (no spelling error here- hens barely lay on the shortest days). Finally spent some time inside untangling dried vine tendrils and pieces from the trellis nettings while fending off Charlie cat who thought it was an even better toy than the red laser dot he chases around. Will have to lock him up in order to roll up the mesh and store it away. Left one trellis up for starting spring peas.

I really didn't accomplish much yesterday. Put some potatoes in the crock pot before my daughter woke up as I thought it would be a good day for potato and broccoli soup. School went really well, so we quit an hour early and I decided to expand the soup into a loaded baked potato soup by adding cheese and crumbled bacon. Yum! First time I made cornbread in a long time and discovered I don't have any cooking oil as I rarely use it. I substituted homemade applesauce for the oil and eliminated that little bit of maple syrup in the big jug as well as I like a sweet cornbread. It turned out really well and not too sweet. Started working on embellishments for the blocks on my daughter's crumb quilt. I have most of the letters of her name cut out and a few stars so far. Gathering some supplies so I can work on it while she's in therapy this morning if we don't freeze to death. We could come back home but with the roads bad, we would no longer get home and in the door before we'd have to go back and pick her up. Thank goodness we've been topping the gas tank off when when we go to town so no worries about running out while keeping warm. Taking a fleece throw as well. My daughter will go to my parent's house tomorrow while we have therapy and hopefully Granny will convince her to do some of her school work as well. Was going to cook a pot of pinto beans today but mom said she was planning to have some ready for us when we get back tomorrow, so probably leftovers today.

Yesterday was a big day around here. It was sweethearts first day back to after her hand surgery in September. Her days with a 3:30am alarm and out the door by 4:20. She’s a nurse a state women’s correctional facility that does have a few virus cases. I went to visitation then took miss daisy (mom) on an overdue shopping trip to a number of places. I give her credit she had a list for each store and didn’t waste much time. Went thru a drive up for lunch and while we were parked I got a call from my cardiologist office with the dr.s explanation of last week’s echo gram. Basically everything looked great and they were happy that my ejection fraction has increased. Drs advice was to keep doing what we’re doing. Had to stop at Wendy’s for a chocolate frosty for miss daisy. Must have been a dozen cars in the line butt she was adamant that we stop. Driving home she told me “ you don’t know what you’re missing “ !! 😂😂😂

This morning I made nettle tea from nettles collected yesterday. The tea tasted funny. Checked the leaves and found a piece of pine straw. So as not to waste it, I tried nettle tea as a foot soak. It seems to work as well as Epsom salt.

Our house was originally built as a 2nd home/vacation home by the original owner/builder, so the kitchen is really small with appropriately small areas for appliances. Thus, we have to pretty much go with the most very basic models, which doesn't leave us much, if any, wiggle room re: brands. Plus, I'm an old-timer who 100% prefers the old electric coil-type ranges which, of course, further reduces our choices. Our current/last range was a Sears Kenmore (as is our fridge & dishwasher), & they are WONDERFUL. Range is probably 15 years old at least (as is everything else). However, the Kenmore brand is not only somewhat of a dinosaur if not extinct, but the model we have is definitely no longer available. The GE was the only model that came close. In fact, it's nearly identical. But again - thanks for the heads up. I'll be careful with it.

Just returned from a trip to the dump/recycling center - the wine bottles were starting to pile up. The guys that work there undoubtedly must think we're raging alcoholics, when in fact we're just bottle hoarders.

Nearly every time I've gone to Lowe's I have left dissatisfied. Nearly every time I've gone to Home Depot I have gotten what I went to get and was happy about it.
One year we went to Lowes and bought a fridge, stove, dishwasher, and a microwave all at the same time. When we asked about delivery it was yes sir anything you say sir. The day came for delivery and installation and I took off work to be at home for the delivery time window from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.... At 9:00 AM they call and say they can't deliver it until tomorrow...
After running up the chain of command at the store, the last manager I talked to told me there was no way he could deliver it TODAY on the day that I was scheduled...
I told him that I had taken off work and had nothing else to do... except call EVERY corporate LOWE'S telephone number I could find on the internet and talk to every executive and their secretaries about why his store could not honor their commitment....
Bottom line: He got two guys and a delivery truck and brought it out himself...
I always start at HD and only go to Lowe's as a last resort.

I always start at HD and only go to Lowe's as a last resort. It's funny because here I do the opposite. Once went to Home Depot and couldn't find anyone to help me, which was the usual for them. Finally found a teenage worker. Asked him where everybody else was. He said they would hide out because they weren't paid enough. Gave him two pieces of friendly advice. 1. You are paid to work. If you don't like the pay, get a job somewhere else. 2. Be careful what you say. I could have been a quality control shopper or an executive checking things out. Then he would be fired. He was young. Hope he took my advice. Always get good service at Lowes. I guess it depends on the management of the stores in your region and maybe also the part of the country you are in.

Home Depot is far superior a store than Lowes in our area. HD is way better stocked, workers are more knowledgeable and helpful. Lowes is a last resort for us, as well.
