I pretty much did absolutely nothing today. Was going to do a thorough watering, but it was so incredibly hot & humid, even early in the morning, that became a bit difficult to breath, & cardio doc warned me about that. Did water my tadpoles & did enough jug-watering to anything that looked like it might be a little wilty to pull them through for awhile. Hopefully I'll arise early enough to do a thorough hose watering tomorrow. Other than that, just indoor puttering & cooked up another batch of dog food for our Methuselah pooch - this time ground turkey, sweet potato, green beans, & spinach. It's so hot that neither hubby or I am particularly hungry, even inside with the a/c, so think it's going to be more of a "grazing/snacking" night as far as dinner is concerned.
I'm getting tired of bitching & whining about the heat. At this point I'd much rather be bitching & whining about the cold.

Oh, I might swelter and complain, but I'm wired for summer heat...beats the cold. Hot fun in the summertime!

I'm a cold weather fan as well; it's so much easier to do everything in the house - I'm not plagued by excessive humidity that makes it an effort to move from one hot and humid room to another. Cold weather is motivating.
It was just too muggy today to do anything except read.
I did listen to the (or one of the) resident cardinals singing this morning, to the accompaniment of a local cricket chirping sweetly...or maybe the cardinal was accompanying the cricket? It's still chirping now.
BTW, can anyone think of a reason why someone would use a wood burning stove in this kind of weather? I've smelled it for the last several days, and can't figure out why someone would need heat. Or maybe they're creating fires for outdoor cooking, but from what I've seen, people use the fancy outdoor grills but not wood.

BTW, can anyone think of a reason why someone would use a wood burning stove in this kind of weather? Maybe they are canning on a wood stove outside. Maybe their electricity is out and they are using it for cooking.

I moved the cabbage plants a few time to keep them out of the direct sun. This evening I decided the garden needed a thorough watering. I know this would have been best done in the morning but getting my husband up and out at the crack of dawn to help me drag the hoses would be near impossible. I was careful to water at the ground and did every bed except for the potato bed and the squash and cucumber bed. I set up my drip irrigation system (two 5-gallon buckets with cracked bottoms) in the latter bed and will move them to the potato bed in the morning. Beets have popped up and hoping to get cabbage in the ground as soon as these 90 degree days are over. SpringRain🕊️, campfire maybe? We only have a charcoal grill and I’ve been known to use small chunks of wood when I ran out of briquettes.

Come back to me in late January/late February. That's when I start saying I can't wait to be bitching & whining about the heat & humidity.

Canned 5 quarts beans yesterday morning, made mini-pizzas for lunch. Then the storm hit. The afternoon was a bust with no power so took a nap. Then went out and cleaned up our little bit of damage.

gardendmpls, canning outdoors is an interesting theory, as is cooking on an outdoor wood stove. I'd be encouraged if someone were able to do that in this regulation oriented city. Fires have been banned for decades. The now deceased next door neighbor once foolishly started a small fire to burn down overgrowth in his back yard, didn't create a fire ring, and the fire spread to the trees in the electrical lines. He was fined for starting the fire, but that's much different from canning. ;) emmsmommy, I'm quite sure campfires would be banned as well. And neighbors report even the smallest of infractions. I'm not familiar with all local regulations, but I know that in my father's community (not as closely packed as in the ring cities), a permit must be obtained just to roast hot dogs and smores. Thanks for the suggestions. I might just saunter down the street and ask the homeowners if they're safe the next time I smell wood smoke. That would likely elicit an explanation.

What I did today. Took the wild birds some seed, watered my one tomato plant. What can we do now for kicks and giggles?

Picked damaged kale this morning. Then made kale soup. And another pan of spaghetti sauce. Mowing yard and cleaning up all the leaf debris from yesterday. 3 gas stations in town. 2 have long lines at every pump due to towns to the south with no power. Our 3rd on must be out of gas. No one there.

not much doing here now but just before it got real bad I had to clean up grape vines that were starting to overtake my garden along the driveway. Only got halfway done because of the heat. Heding outside to pick the tomatoes to turn them into stewed tomatoes/sauce. Mumsey, binnylou, heard about the storm damage over that way. Are you folks okay otherwise? Happy to see you in here.

Are you folks okay otherwise? binnylou may be offline from the storm. I don't remember looking at the "Users Online in the Last 24 Hours" list and not seeing binnylou.
