Last year or so honeysuckle sneaked over from the neighbors to the porch wall. Love that heavenly scent wafting over the porch, but eventually pulled out what I could. Other day saw it was not only coming back, but also expanding its territory. May change tactics and just keep it trimmed back to the wall area.

still don't understand how vision could have changed I once learned from my optometrist Dad that your vision changes when you get older, becoming a little more farsighted each year. In my case, since I started off nearsighted, my vision improves a bit each year. Your ability to focus also slows a bit, but is still there. Like everything else as you age (except your bladder filling up), it takes longer.

Yesterday started out with an intense thunderstorm rolling thru at 6am. Lots of thunder, lightning, high winds and 3/4 of an inch of rain in a 30 minute period. Lots of standing water in the fields and a drenched garden area for us will delay planting for a few more days.
I met a couple of longtime buddies for breakfast as sweetheart took Ruby to get shampooed, a haircut and her nails done. When Ruby returned home she looked like such a little lady without grass stained white paws, a closer than usual haircut and bows in her hair.
I set the plants out for some time in the sun as I started our supper of sweet potatoes, asparagus with cherry tomatoes drizzled with a bourbon glaze along with pork burgers that were dolled up with shredded apple, breadcrumbs and a couple spices. Nothing accomplished in the garden but a pretty darn good day……

centralilrookie, do you garden in any raised beds? If wet ground is keeping you from gardening, a couple of raised beds will have you out there dropping seeds right after the skies clear. I will say that it might cramp your style if you have big boy toys/attachments for your tractor. Hubby has the 5 ft tiller for his little blue tractor…doesn’t fit my gardening style anymore.

Love that heavenly scent wafting over the porch, but eventually pulled out what I could. I also love the scent of wild honeysuckle, as well as wild Multiflora roses. The Multiflora in particular brings back fond memories of riding my horse through the woods & fields on beautiful May/June days back in NY. The strong rose scent was heavenly. But enough is enough. I wait until the roses finish blooming & then hack them back, & most of the honeysuckle goes well before that, otherwise that gets WAY out of hand. We have a honeysuckle vine next to our deck that now has a trunk that's wrist-thick.

vision changes when you get older, Even after cataract surgery??? Dr says there's absolutely nothing wrong with my eyes, she checked off all the boxes and eyes are perfect, aside from blurry vision.

Another busy day. Went out and finished potting up my stuff. Then started on step mom's. Brother didn't bring any manure to the garage, so I potted up most of her stuff in pots I had and used decent soil. Most of her pots have seen better days, but she sees nothing wrong with them....bottom falling out, sides cracked??? Anyway got done what I could. Brother must have been on a guilt trip, called me and said he swung by home and got that bucket of manure for me. That's good, I needed some for what I couldn't do at my house. So went there and got everything all done, even planted her some Mammoth Sunflowers, she was more excited about that than the 10 pots I just filled for her. I left more cabbage plants and the rest of the Yukon Gold potatoes for brother to plant. There are NO plants left to need attention while I'm gone for 5 days!
I think I figured out what the creeping weed thing is in the back yard. Creeping Speedwell. It's very tight and short. Maybe it will strangle dandelions, I could only be so lucky.
Came home and looked over the garden, lots of leaves blown off trees last night but all is well. Plucked 2 days worth of dandelions. Was going to mow the front yard but ran out of steam.

Today was our weekly water day from the Acequia Madre. Looks like we've got the kinks worked out for the season. Love having a stream running through our property for a few hours.
While water was running I planted the lobelia starts in pots and the bachelor buttons starts along with the volunteers that are up. Found a stray basil plant in with the b. buttons (now how did I manage that?!) and got that up potted. Trimmed back the silver lace vine (aka mile-a-minute vine)- whew- those grow fast; this is the second trim already.

Productive day for a change! Used some old rabbit fencing to make new tops for two of the folding table frames and moved them to the kennel holding area along with the shelving to that free greenhouse. Made sure to wire the shelves to the kennel so they won't topple in high winds and proceeded to carry all of the peppers and the roma tomatoes down and place inside. Other tomatoes went to the makeshift cot stand and will spend the day there tomorrow before moving them into the kennel. Mowed half of the front yard which involved taking the cot stand apart, mowing and reconstructing it for tomatoes. Notice I have a dark pink fava bean bloom and kind of excited about that.

Started working on the side garden. We added it a few years ago when I decided I wanted to grow corn. Last year it was just pumpkins and gourds. Creeping Charlie is starting to take it over, so I started digging and pulling. Most came out pretty easily due to all the rain yesterday. Pumpkins will go in there again this year. Planted a few pole beans and will get the bush beans in probably the weekend. Supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Went out after dinner and pulled more creeping charlie. ugh.

Even after cataract surgery? Cataract surgery removes a cloudy lens which blocks the light entering the eye. Near/far-sightedness are caused by a change in the shape of the eye, which has the image that enters focusing in front of or in back of where it should. This can happen with age.

I originally wasn't doing a lot outside today, because it rained early, when I was going to go out and beat the heat, which got up to 88°, and very humid, at first. Later, around 5 pm, the humidity lifted considerably, and it was very breezy, so even though it was still 87°, I went out and finished that row of beans - some KY Wonder and Fortex pole beans, this time, then put the chicken wire back in place, to keep varmints out. I am still waiting until Friday to plant the eggplants, because of the possible gusty thunderstorms forecast for lat tomorrow, but each time I see the weather they have moved the line farther south of me, so hopefully, the tomatoes will be spared, and I can get these other plants in.

Pulled weeds from the front landscape until the sun beat me down. Assembled some furniture that arrived. Sowed some verbena and transplanted a "hedgehog" cactus.
