It also says that there will definitely be enough seeds for next year's demand.

Normally, I would never show you a pic like this........... But, I had issues getting this plant started, and when on the 3rd try my seed germinated in 4 days, like other varieties of tomatos, but not the 250, well, I had to share.............3rd try, 5th seed..............BUT, I'm up and running now, and I'm such a Happy Camper this morning. Shall we keep each other updated about this specific tomato here for the duration?

I am not sure my eyes are seeing right...Is that a sprout in the middle of the pot? Mine germinated in 6 days. But only half of them so far. Once you start the seed do you water it while you are waiting for it to pop?

lilolpeapicker , Yep it still in elbow form, and the head hasn't come up yet.............I'll eyeball that thing to death today till its head shows up, hopefully without the seed coat still on it! hahah I don't feel like worrying that thing off, but my basement is DRY with the woodstove. Don't let the pot dry out. Keep the soil damp. I had a cover on mine while germinating, but it's off now and under lights. I didn't need to water the pot for those 4 days it was germinating. Don't know why my first attempts did not work..........but that is in the past now..........looking forward. And we can save seeds this fall, if they impress us! See above posts in this thread...........it's open pollinated.

I am also growing the Rutgers 250 and I had 100% germination.
I also remove the cover as soon as the seeds sprout but them I spray the soil surface each day with a mist of water. If the soil gets too dry then I water it from a watering can.

Updating my Rutger 250 pic, and wondering how many of you got seeds. I noticed on the SITE that the order form is taken down and that they do not have any seeds left this year. They must not have any left of the Virtually the same as Rutger tomato ( either. Boy, that was a FAST sell out. I wish I knew just how many seeds they harvested and sold. The Site: njfarmfresh.rutgers.edu/JerseyTomato.htmlWell, it says they will be letting everyone know in late April who is offering PLANTS: Introducing the 'Rutgers 250' tomato! The new version of the 'Rutgers' tomato has been named in honor of the University's 250th anniversary. We are currently sold out of seeds and no longer taking orders for 'Rutgers 250', 'Ramapo', 'Moreton' and 'KC-146' tomatoes. Locations selling Rutgers 250 and Ramapo tomato plants will be posted in late April And here is my dear Baby this morning: My flash washed it out, but it is very cute. I have a regular Rutger growing also. I'll compare the 2 if I decide to keep the regular Rutger in my yard. Might give it to someone.

Planted 6 seeds and all 6 have become babies. Going to transplant to larger pots today along other tomatoes and peppers. I have had good germination with those as well.

lineup on the woodstove, that is not in use! woo hoo:
Rutger regular, rutger regular, rutger 250, jersey boy. All potted up 4/9.
The earlier tomatoes will be posted on the other tomato thread. I'm just showing brownrexx a comparison of tomatoes planted at the same time. The others are earlier plantings and not to be compared as they are much larger, and not in this category.
Jersey Boy is a cross between Rutger and brandywine. All of the above have a rutger trait to them.

Looking Pretty brownrexx! I'm done potting up. Will you pot up one more time or not? I hope to put mine in the ground on 5/7. If that is not an option due to weather, I might have to pot up once more. Lordy, I hope not.

Will you pot up one more time or not? No, no more potting up before they go into the garden. I just potted these up 4 days ago so they have plenty of room for roots. This is why I do not start my seeds earlier. I do not want to have to keep repotting into bigger pots so I start seeds about 6 weeks before they get planted outside. Having them on the front porch and in the sun should keep them stocky and not getting too much taller.

I NEED mine tall here, so I can bury down a bit in the raised bed, which is bed 2 this year for them. Bed 4 is not raised. Last year I planted smaller plants.
Bed 2 needs buried deeper, so I don't have to water as much.
All that just became a what? what ya mean conversation...........
You guys KNOW!
