I have never seen my cats bathe on the counter. They usually just hop up, look around and then get down. They have other favorite places for napping and bathing. I have no windows near my kitchen counters. They like sitting at windows.

The cats have their litter boxes very far away from the kitchen, thank goodness.
My cats bathe each other's faces and ears on the kitchen windowsill when they are cuddled up there and sleepy. They go to the carpeted floor in the living room to bathe their bodies. Softer to balance in odd positons, I guess.
My cats are like heat seeking lizards. They are in whatever window is getting sunlight at the moment. When the sun goes down they head for the top of the fridge so they can be near the pot light which acts like a heat lamp.

My cats are like heat seeking lizards I guess that yours are not as spoiled as mine. A few years ago I bought myself a small heated throw blanket from JC Penney. We keep our thermostat turned down fairly low in the winter and I am always cold so in the evenings I sit under this nice, warn throw to read or watch TV. Usually I have at least one cat on my lap too so I bought a new throw for myself and let them have my old one. I have it on our bed and that is where the cats spend the whole day (winter and summer). It is only turned onto low but they love it and I like the fact that it keeps them and a lot of their hair off of the furniture. The blanket is washable.

They say cats are soooo clean................ Were you possibly thinking that dogs are cleaner? Do they go outside and step in mud and who knows what else and then walk across your carpets and jump on your bed? Do they bring fleas and/or ticks into the house? Do they drool on your floors? Anytime we have animals living with us then our houses are not as totally clean as they would be without them but we love them and it's worth it in my opinion!

Your cats are so cute, brownrexx. They don't look like the typical American Shorthair like mine are. What breed are they? My cats are pretty spoiled, too. They have baskets with pillows on top of the fridge for their heat lamp enjoyment. Pillows on windowsills, a fluffy down throw blanket on their favorite spot on the sofa, and a heated mattress pad in the winter. They also have a Dude who likes to sit with his legs propped up on the hearth of the fireplace and he will often have both cats curled up on his legs to get close to the fire too. I don't know how The Dude stands it, sitting so close to the fire. I get way too hot. He loves it. So do the cats. Until a log cracks and splits loudly. Then they run away.

Most pet cats are spoiled I think. 2 of ours are Abyssinians and we also have a third one who is a domestic shorthair rescue. We went to a cat show many years ago and I just fell in love with the Abyssinians. They are said to appeal to people who love the wild animal look but they are totally domesticated. They stay relatively small and only weigh 7-8 lbs. Zoie on the left is 10 years old and Herkie on the right is 5. They are at the top of the scale in cat intelligence and sometimes are TOO smart. They can open doors and other things and will even play catch with us. They are quite interesting and run circles around Nellie. They don't allow Nellie to sleep with them on the blanket so she has her own bed on top of my hubby's high dresser.

I was gonna ask what breed they are also....their coat is so sleek. Do they shed a lot?
PS restless, were you going to do that pastry recipe for your contest entry....and since they took the forum down that had the entire recipe before I could save it, would you repeat that, p.l.e.a.s.e.??

Pea, I will put it on the recipe thread. It will take me longer to post it for you than normal as it is a recipe from a cookbook I have at home, so I need to be at home, with time to type it up, rather than with stolen minutes posting from my cell phone while I'm really doing something else. I will get to it ASAP, though. Promise. Make sure you have a lot of butter and full fat sour cream on hand and you'll be prepared.

Nellie has similar coloring to Easter Nellie is a super lucky cat. Hubby found her starving and alone at a local car lot during one of the Polar Vortices. The jerk salesman kicked snow in her face and told her to "get lost" when she came up to him and hubby. Hubby didn't take her right away but thought about it the whole way home and then went back and picked her up after talking to me. their coat is so sleek. Do they shed a lot?
They do shed like all cats but they have less hair so less shedding. I think that this is one reason that they like the heated blanket so much. They have thinner coats. Nellie has twice as much hair as they do.
Check out the coloring of the one on the right. Some people call them "little lions". We really like that look and they are such interesting cats.
Here's another picture that I really like.

In this photo, you can see Easter's coloring better. She has the same dilute tortie and white fur with a cream patch on her chest.

Wow, they really do look a lot alike. Our vet calls Nellie a dilute tortie.
I really didn't want a 3rd cat but I couldn't just leave here there to die either. She has turned out to be a very nice cat and really does not cause any trouble. she's the one who I thought didn't cruise the counters and came into the bedroom with the pen that she got off of the counter after we went to bed.
The Abyssinians are very quiet cats and they hardly ever meow but Nellie is a real talker so it was something to get used to, especially in the middle of the night!

Some day I'll have Abyssinian cats. I always liked them, and I cannot think of a better way to replace grown and moved out kids.

Restless, that pic CRACKS me up! brownrexx, Bless Nellie's heart. She can't lay with the others. So much fun to see kitty pics. Maybe binnylou, will share the pic I love of her Jumping cat. She shared it on the OLD OG, but she needs to drag that COOL pic up again!
