So I'm searching for a picture of Brownie and can't find the external hard drive cable, so I'll just tell a bit about him. He was essentially a mutt but quite beautiful as he looked similar to Benji. When he was about six months old he disappeared and we couldn't find him anywhere and then he staggered in a week later thin and limping. While he was gobbling food I inspected his foot and noticed it was infected. About that time our neighbor came up and told us he released him from a steel trap while hunting and that someone was growing pot on the elderly neighbor's land again. He lost all but one toe on that foot and limped for the rest of his life, but never again wandered out of the yard. We noticed he was deaf two years ago and it was quite a sight to come home and see Daisy run to greet us and Brownie looking around wondering what was going on until he spotted us. The UPS guy was accustomed to stopping in the middle of the driveway because he knew Brownie was deaf. Though approaching seventeen, he was still quite stocky and active which is why it was such a shock for him to die. I'm just glad he didn't pass away while we were gone and that he spent his final moments with me and his best doggy friend. Daisy is lost without him.

I am SO sorry for your loss. I know only too well how awful it is to lose a pet - especially a dog. Our farm has become a sanctuary of shrubs & trees planted over the beloved furry friends we've lost over the years.

emmsmommy, I’m sorry that you lost your friend. Losing a pet can be heartbreaking. Been there, done that often…not sure that I can do it again. Daughter thinks we need a dog.

Daughter thinks we need a dog. Everyone may not "need" a dog, but there are sure a lot of dogs out there who need a person!

After being with us for eight months, Newbie has been missing for two weeks. Neighbors and the county animal control folks haven't seen her. I have to figure that someone has picked her up along the roadway, we have our share of thieves. Dag-nabbit. Newbie, come home again.

Yes, she had won us over, now there's a hole in our lives. Sharpie has been looking for her, too.

I don't mean to make light of a horrible situation, but Mr. Breezy & I often say that if anyone kidnapped our dog Eva, it would end up like O. Henry's story - "The Ransom of Red Chief" - wherein two guys kidnap a little boy who turns out to be the terror of his family & the whole town, & instead of getting ransom money, the kidnappers end up having to pay the family money to take the brat back.
Fingers (& toes) crossed that your pup comes back or is given back to you asap.

Our dear Sharpie passed away last night. She was fifteen years old, and quite simply the best dog, ever. For Sharpie, a poem by Stephen Kuusisto: Elegy For A Little Dog... Under the dream eyelids where you live now I see you beneath birches standing watch Good traveler with your plumed tail Head high, your doggie smile (That way you had of hinting Next joy and next) I promise we’re still in love Here between waves In the stones of the field O still in love with you So not forgetting Your unbounded prance Which was silly In the way of those Who truly live

Unfortunately know only too well the sadness of losing a beloved dog. Have the ashes of our "heart dog" residing in a hand-carved box inside with us, & all the others residing on our property with nice trees gracing their graves. (Oh - did Newbie ever return home?)
