"There's gallon and a half of cider for periodic breaks"

Mumsey , I do too! It's a quick way to reacquaint myself with old books, fabric, and things I bought years if not decades ago. And everything looks so nice afterwards, so I feel good too. Sometimes life can be simplified to provide pleasure in just the basics of living. James , ummm, yes to hot cider! Dad and I both loved cider, so a few years ago when cider went on sale frequently I stocked up and got him 5 gallon jugs, which I froze after pouring off a little from each to avoid expansion and overflow. That was when cider was $4.99/gallon. This year it's been on sale for $2.99/gallon, so I have some extras in my frig for those "hot cider days". Again, something so simple can give so much pleasure.

"There's gallon and a half of cider for periodic breaks" Hmmmm..... the cider sounds good. That's a lot of cider, James. Did you heat it up or drink it ice cold? I've been wondering what it would taste like to use some apple cider in place of water for a baked bread...loaded with some chopped apples and cinnamon.

My comment was "Hmmmm..... the cider sounds good."
That comment about a l gallon and a half was someone else commenting, I just quoted. Can't you see the little quote marks?

Can't you see the little quote marks? I can see the blue box easier...makes it obvious that it is a quote. Just copy/paste doesn't tell who made the original comment. Using the quick quote option would do that. So, do you have any cider to try in your next batch of homemade bread?

binnylou , I confess: I'm the culprit with a gallon and a half of cider in the frig. I've never even thought of using cider in bread, but that's a great idea. I use it to baste ham, and plan to try it in more dishes. I was thinking of thickening it (with corn starch?? baking soda??) and trying it as a light dressing for waldorf salad. Another use is for cooked rice. I might have used it to baste fish, long, long ago. Using it in place of water for something like a spice cake might also work well. My cooking habits declined during the caregiving years so I'm just getting back into being more creative. I also like it just heated, in lieu of coffee.

I've never even thought of using cider in bread There is a very nice bakery in a nearby town that is famous for their fresh apple bread. I think the next time I go to town, I'll pick up some cider (probably frozen concentrate by now) and try subbing the cider in for the water in the bread recipe. Fresh apples diced small and sprinkled with cinnamon, rolled up inside the bread. The bakery drizzles their bread with a light frosting. They are also famous for their Dutch letters.

SpringRain🕊️, How about some honey mixed with the apple cider for your dressing? That might thicken it a tiny bit. Sounds good!

I lied. The wife went out to the freezer in the garage and pulled a bottle of frozen cider out and brought it in to thaw out. Guess I will have to try some in the bread?
21 degrees here this morning. Clear skies, calm, we have a moon.

Feb 3 Sunday, got up and went to church. Then home, change clothes, grab a can of Coke and come sit at the computer. It is 43 degrees calm and sunny. I dumped .3 from the rain gauge this morning.

February 4, Monday, Thursday is bread making day, but we were down to the last loaf, so decided to bake this morning. Ground the wheat, got it all mixed up and it is rising as I write this. The wife helped me find all the stuff.
